Relationship fields and lookups using organization contact entity

Hi

I an using the organization contact entitie to test how things work with relationships as I have existing data that uses a similar tewchnique for many to many relationships.

The issue is that when I try and  bind the organization contact table to either a galley or a dropdown control, the fields that hold the organization and contact IDs are not listed

Capture.JPG

In this example I was trying to filter contact gallery by organization using a dropdown bound to org-contact table

What I ultimately need is a work flow where the main card holds project data. Project  table holds relationship to organization and contact. On lookup for organisation I want to choose one of the conatcs that works for that organization ( or add a new one) as collected in organization - contact table ( or similar) . Got it all working fine on an Access webapp !!

I have other issues getting relationship fields to display second value fiield data but will leave that till later !!

What am I missing !!??

Richard

Hi @rlmckean,

The Organization and Contact didn't show up because those fields are lookup type. Currently the dynamic dropdown for the value field showed in your screenshot couldn't list the lookup field data value, as the lookup fields are actually record value.

Lookup field would be available if this entity has been configured for relationship with the other entities, for the Organization Contact entity, those two fields mean this entity has relationships with Organization entity and Contact Entity

You may take a look at the article below for more details regarding relationship and lookup fields in Common Data Service:

Build a relationship between entities

For Switch to sepcific organization or Contact, please consider add dropdown control for the corresponding entity, then use the filter function to return the proper records.

For example, we want to choose Contact, then we need and a dropdown control, specify the items propety of this dropdown control with Contacts entity,

Then under the screen which would show the results, use filter to match the lookup field and the dropdown selected value.

The formula shoudl be:

Filter('Organization contact',

          Contact.ContactId=Dropdown1.Selected.ContactId)

Hi Micheal
Thanks for all that. The organisation contact entitie has a relationship s set up for the organisation table and the contact table. When you view the data of the organisation contact table, the contact field holds the contact table contactid and simarly with the organisation.. is it that the relational fields can only be used in the data form rather than the gallery. ?. Am away from my computer for a few days but will check it out when I get back
Many thanks and will be in touch
Richard

Hi @rlmckean,

OK.

Adding the blog for the support about lookup fields.

Hope it would be helpful:

Hi Michael

Had no internet since your last post until today !!

Your link was very useful however I do seem to be having a major issue on getting lookups to giveup its data!!

For testing purposes I have created a new entity and created two  relationships which have created two lookup fields

quoteorgcontact entitie.JPG

I have set the lookup Field groups to the two related tables as follows

qoc relationship.JPG

I used the app creation to create an app from the quoteorgcontact entitie. I have two problems - The first  is on the datacard, no fields will show other that the primary ID  for the lookup field

datacard field selection.JPG

However the datacard is picking up the base data. Note the contact id field has a value of 000009. The 'Add record ' Card works as I have saved the data shown,  although will not display anything other than the PrimaryID.

So onto the Gallery and using the tip from your link.

If I hardcode the value 0000009 into a lookup then it returns a value

gallery hardcoded.JPG

However when I try and use the quoterorgcontract field "Contactsnew_", it returns no data and shows an error although all the code has the correct colours for the correct syntax

gallery lookup.JPG

The only difference I can think of from Microsofts demos is that I am using self created entities rather fro a sharepoint list

However i am totally frustrated as i can see how it should work and I just can't get it to do it - I am sure it is something simple !!

Any further thoughts will be greatfully appreciated

Cheers

Richard

Hi Michael

I should have added maybe firstly - i am using Web Powerapps Studio and secondly - the dropdons in the editform displayed the data from the two related entities so there is a connectoin being made. However as I mentioned - only the primaryID fields seem to be  available

Cheers

Richard
