Remove Item From Collection Using Gallery

Hi All,

Having a strange issue here, I am familiar with collections and remove/collect/clearcollect etc but I can't seem to solve this issue. It is very simple, trying to remove a record from a collection that is shown in a gallery.

I have one collection called demoitems, and a standard vertical gallery (Gallery1) inserted and not customised in any way. I then added a "X" icon oustide of the gallery and set the "OnSelect" property to this code "Remove(demoitems, Gallery1.Selected)". For some reason that i cant fathom, when clicking the "X" icon, nothing happens.

I followed all the steps outlined here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-remove-removeif in the
"Remove button outside a gallery" section.

I did the exact same thing with a datatable and it worked fine, showing the collection in a data table and setting the "X" OnSelect to Remove(demoitems, Datatable1.Selected). Am i missing something particular to collections displayed in galleries? I have done the same approach many times with sharepoint lists and not had this issue, am i missing something blatantly obvious here?

Thanks for any tips

Regards

Ryan

Hi @Ry2jericho ,

Please notice that the Table in Remove formula in document tutorial is Contacts, a CDS Entity, a Real Data Source.

However, if you want to remove the Collection,  the entire record must match. Below is where I refer to.

Snipaste_2020-07-16_16-31-12.png

The workaround is to use LookUp function to retrieve the entire record from collection through GUID field as @mdevaney  mentioned.

In your case, the collection is from Contact Entity, so the GUID field is Contact field, please try this.

Remove(CollectionName,LookUp(CollectionName, Contact=Gallery1.Selected.Contact))

Hope this helps.

@Ry2jericho
Can you please try something like this?

Remove(demoitems, LookUp(demoitems, ID=Gallery1.Selected.ID))

I suggest you insert a Checkbox1 in the Gallery, so that whenever its checked, it makred form removal.

Then Change the Formula on your Button Outside the Gallery to:

ForAll( RenameColumns(Filter(Gallery1.AllItems, Checkbox1.Value = true), "IDColumn", "ID1"),
Remove(demoitems,LookUp(demoitems,IDColumn = ID1)) )

------------

Hi @Ry2jericho ,

Please change to use this code:

Remove(demoitems, ThisItem)

For collections, the entire record must match when using Remove function. ThisItem is the entire record of what you selected, however Gallery.Selected code also includes some controls in the gallery on a record basis, so it doesn't work.

Hope this helps,

Hi @v-siky-msft ,

This works if the button is inside the gallery but in this case the button is outside.

Does this mean the documentation here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-remove-removeif is incorrect? I have even used the same sample collection as done in the example at that link. Please can it be updated if incorrect?

Hi @mdevaney thanks for your response, I am getting an error if I do that "Name isnt valid. This identifier isnt recognized"- is there something wrong with the collection?, I am using sample data from microsoft documentation

@v-siky-msft Ah, I see, thanks for clarifications, was not aware of this slight difference between data sources when using remove. Thanks all for responses
