Reset a choice when changing another choice

Hello community,

I'm struggeling to reset a choice in case another choice is changing

We want to check if applications are using Log4j and if so, which version is used. This logic is working so far. But in case the user is later changing the value from yes to no, i want to reset the version selection to empty.

I'm using a dataverse table.

The first selection is a custom choice with values yes and no (DataCardValue3)

The 2nd selection is also a choice, containing a few java versions (DataCardValue7)

Both drop down do not have a default value.

If the user is changing the 1st selection from yes to no, i want to clear the dropdown.

I tried to use the reset property of DataCardValue7, but its not working
Reset   >>   DataCardValue3.Selected.Value = AppLog4jinuse.no

Any Idea how to fix this.

Hi @mintenm ,

If you're using a dropdown (and not a combo box) then make sure AllowEmptySelection: property is set to true and Default: property is empty.  Then, when you reset the control it will clear to empty.  To test this, add a button inside the same card as the DataCardValue7 control and set it's OnSelect: property to 

Reset(DataCardValue7)

Clicking on the button should reset the control to empty - if not there may be something else preventing it.  

Bear in mind, the Reset: property of a control generally requires a boolean toggle to work properly (in my experience anyway) - so by default it should be false, then when the value changes to true it resets the control, but it should then be set back to false (for future resets).  Setting it true from true doesn't invoke a reset.

You can achieve this by setting the Reset: property of the DataCardValue7 control to a variable, like resetDropdown

Then you can use the OnChange: event of the DataCardValue3 control to test if the selection = no, then toggle the variable.  Using a local variable like this allows you to Reset the control from anywhere, including outside the form if need be - so on the DataCardValue3 control OnChange: property, something like this should work;

If(Self.Selected.Value="No"), 
 UpdateContext({resetDropdown: true});
 UpdateContext({resetDropdown: false})
)

Thx for the quick reply. I'm using ComboBoxes instead of DropDowns. I changed the fields to DropDowns and applied you suggestion. Suddenly its not working. One issue I have is if i empty the Default property the values are not loaded when selecting the item from the parent galery. But even if i empty the Default property its not working.

Do you have other ideas?

I found a solution which is working for me until now. I used Business rules to clean up the unnecessary fields
