I have an App I have been successfully using for a month. I did a minor change to one datatable, one one screen, and now on every screen if I change between portrait and landscape or back again the screen only takes up the left hand 1/4 and everything else is white. As far as I can determine the change I made is irrelevant ... its the new released version? I havent tried reverting yet.
The screen still dynamically responds and resizes but can only see the 1/4 view.
It is also happening every time I try to use the camera for bar code scanning.
This is effectively crippling my App use as barcode scanning is essential. It is happening on both Apple and Android. On laptop I cant change orientation or use barcode scanner so can't make it occur there.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem? I was going to try to make a dummy screen which displays Height/Width screen data in the top left hand side to try and diagnose whats going on.
I don't want to release any other versions of my other apps in case the same problem occurs until I understand why it is occuring.
Solved! Go to Solution.
This self corrected today without me changing any code or logic or a new release by Microsoft.
I swapped the screen settings around a few times today and published a new version and it now works again.
No idea why - I hope it stays fixed.
I changed one screen to display Parent.Height and Parent.Width in the top left hand corner and then moved the device orientation between Portrait and Landscape. The values are changing correctly but as soon as I alter the device orientation I get stuck with this 1/4 view and 3/4 white. It then affects every screen of the App and I can't recover without closing the App.
This has to be a Microsoft bug introduced in Release 3.19051.14 2 days ago.
The change I did appears irrelevant it is only that it was compiled under a new release.
It was working fine in Release 3.19045.16.
I also updated my device to the latest release 3.19051.17 to make sure it wasn't an issue with software being out of date.
I also tried clearing the cache on my device.
I also tried downloading the App to desktop and recreating it as a new version.
To prove it I created a NEW App and put a single Barcode Scan button and Text box on it.
If you leave the Orientation fixed it all works OK. Barcode scan works.
But if you allow in App Settings for the Orientation to change this 1/4 screen issue occurs the instant you scan a barcode or rotate the Orientation of your device.
Then if you go back into the App and change the settings back so the Orientation is fixed the barcode scanning works OK again. So I can't see how this is a problem of my creation.
So it looks like until this is fixed I need to go back to my problematic App and force the Orientation to be unchangeable to reallow barcode scanning without causing the 3/4 white screen problem.
Yes .... when I go back to my problematic App and change the Screen Orientation settings it fixes the Barcode scan issue making the screen 3/4 white. I will live with that until hopefully the problem is worked out and rectified in the meantime.
I have tried a number of different combinations .... the killer setting is altering Scale to Fit.
If this is kept ON barcode scanning doesn't affect the screen.
If this is OFF barcode scanning makes the screen 1/4 only with the rest white.
No idea why this is happening apart from the last release.

Orientation - The orientation of the screen. If its Width is greater than its Height, the orientation will be Layout.Horizontal; otherwise, it will be Layout.Vertical.
