Search and select a Azure AD group based on condtion

Hi,
I am trying to select an Azure AD group based on a condition but it is not working.

I have a from with multiple fields (amount (text box) and a choice field).

For AD group selection, I have a person type field (allow group selection enabled in sharepoint column).

If the condition meets, this person type field should show/select an AD group.
Here is my code.

If(
Value(inputPOAmount.Text) >= 500 && Value(inputPOAmount.Text) <= 9999 && ExpanseTypeChoice.Selected.Value = "IT" && L2ApprovalStatusInput.Selected.Value = "Required",
AzureAD.GetGroup("44b25e85-6258-4b47-a8c4-a10ae296b8cc").displayName
)

Need help to fix the group selection issue, please.

Thanks in advance

Hi @muzzamal,

I have mentioned that AzureAD.GetGroup() returns a totally different data schema with the one returned by the formula you set for the Items property, that's why you could not save the group to the data source.

To save group, you should modify your Update as below:

{'@odata.type':"#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedUser",
        Claims:"c:0o.c|federateddirectoryclaimprovider|group objectID",
    Department:"",
   DisplayName:"groupname Members",
         Email:"group email address",
      JobTitle:"",
       Picture:""
   }

You could find your group objectID in adure AD admin center.

Best Regards,
Qi

The issue was resolved by adding the AD group into SharePoint site member groups.
The code you had provided is the same that is generated after adding the AD group in the SP site member groups.

  1. Here are the steps to add AD group in SP site security settings.
    Open any existing SharePoint Group of any test site.
  2. Add the Security Group as a Member for temporary purposes.
  3. Click on the name of the Security Group. Copy the Group Id from there.
    sharepoint site > people and groups
  4. Use that Group ID in formula. The formula will look you had posted above.

Thanks

Hi @muzzamal,

On the surface, it seems to be a problem of wrong data type, but in essence it is a problem related to the table structure.

Here is the thing, AzureAD.GetGroup() returns a totally different data schema with the one returned by the formula you set for the Items property if you use the Choices() function to populate the people picker.

Here is the returned data schema by Choices(List.PersonField):

vqiaqimsft_1-1686123558858.png

Here is the returned data schema by AzureAD.GetGroup():

vqiaqimsft_2-1686123765992.png

So, the formula you set for the DefaultSelectedItems property must be able to retrieve the display name parameter from the formula you set for the Items property, which means that the returned table for both DefaultSelectedItems and Items property should come from the same table.

However, currently they are from totally different table and represently owns the different field name, which is not supported in the ComboBox.

Best Regards,
Qi

Hi Qi,

Thanks for the details.
The following code fixed the issue of selecting an AD group based on the condition.

DefaultSelectedItems =
If(
Value(inputPOAmount.Text) >= 500 &&
L4ApprovalStatusInput.Selected.Value = "Required",
{Value: AzureAD.GetGroup("c57e3b91-b1d1-4b94-a0ef-c7148296a910").displayName},

Value(inputPOAmount.Text) >= 10000 &&
L4ApprovalStatusInput.Selected.Value = "Required",
{Value: AzureAD.GetGroup("246bd2b0-c55f-4ee7-9fb6-8613084f6b28").displayName}

)

it is selecting the correct AD group. That's fine. Another issue I am facing is when submitting the form, the selected AD group name is not saved in the sharepoint list column.
The data type of sharepoint list column is "Person or Group" and "allow selection of groups" is enabled for the column.

Thank you so much. Actually, this thing is entirely new for me.
This code is correctly selecting the AD group now. But cannot submit the form now.
When submitting the form, it shows the following error:
Network error when using patch function: The requested operation is invalid.

How can I save the group members in a separate person-type column? Tried to use the same code but it is not working. The idea is to store the group members separately in a column and fetch them when required.
Or
As the AD group is already stored in the SharePoint list column, is there any way I can get the member of the selected group? for example, azuread.getgroupmembers(gallery.selected.column).members .... something like this

Thanks
