Hi,
I have a question in relation to creating an environment in the Power Platform Admin center. My main requirement is to setup a PowerApps Portal with CDS as a backend. But we also have a Dynamics 365 based on-prem setup which we may bring to this power platform setup in say in next 6-7 months from now (not sure).
It seems that when creating a production environment with a Common Data Service database, we get an option to add Dynamics 365 apps (by choosing "Enable Dynamics 365 apps"). I also read in MS docos that - The Enable Dynamics 365 apps decision is not reversible: Once you create an environment, if you don't select Enable Dynamics 365 apps at the time of database provisioning, you will not be able to make this change later.
So my question is that if I have only purchased the PowerApp Portal and PowerApps User/month plan as a part of licensing purchase then am I eligible to select the option "Enable Dynamics 365 apps" during the environment or it will require additional cost related to D365 apps which I don’t have any plans to setup at this stage (may be after 6-7 months)?
Sorry if my above explanation is bit confusing. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Regards, AR
Hi @AR19 ,
Do you want to enable the "Enable Dynamics 365 apps" option when you deploy an Environment with CDS?
Currently, within PowerApps, if you want to "Enable Dynamics 365 apps" option when you deploy an Environment with CDS, you need to own corresponding Dynamics license (e.g. Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement licenses) for Dynamics 365 Sales or Field service for your account.
If you want to enable "Enable Dynamics 365 apps" option with your PowerApps and Power Portal license during database provisioning, I afraid that there is no way to achieve your needs in PowerApps currently.
Best regards,
The question of @AR19 , comes back to us over time.
We still have only Dataverse(No Engagement Apps). We consider the Dynamics 365 Outlook app(actually Outlook for CDS).
The answer of @v-xida-msft , is not clear to me. At creation of a new environment we do have the option to turn the slider on/off, without having any Dynamics 365 Engagement apps licenses(Like Sales, Customer Service, etc.).
I read what Microsoft says that the slider is not reversable. So if you do not turn it on upon creation, you will not be able to add Dynamics 365 Engagement apps later on.(not including Outlook add-in Power App) That is clear.
Now if I do turn it on and I don't 'Engage' any Dynamics 365 Engagement apps later on, what is the drawback?
Hi @Florisz - have you learned anything more regarding your question? I am in a similar situation, and struggling to find any clear information about this.
Hi @MariusHT, Coincidence or not last week I search for the same question again and ended up at my own post here...
I an confirm you can use the Outlook plugin without the slider on.
But still don't know the drawback when slider is on while you don't use any Microsoft apps.
Thanks for the update, @Florisz ! I asked a somewhat similar question myself here: Solved: Re: Does a Power Apps license cover the use of "co... - Power Platform Community (microsoft....
What I was afraid of, was having to sign up for any Dynamics 365 licenses by enabling it, even though we're building our own app. To avoid this, you have to be careful not to use, or permit access to, any restricted tables/entities.
As I've understood it, the only drawback (as of now, at least) is the space consumption.
