Selecting item in drop down list while loading PowerApps

Hi Friends,

I am not getting any solution to implement below logic. It would be great if any one could help me on this and provide me few implementation pointers.

I have one PowerApp and having 3 screens(Browse, Details, Edit). I am fetching recrods from transaction table and showing in browse and Details screen. But my Edit screen has little twick as here I am using master table to show all text values where my transaction table is carrying ID values.

My When I am choosing text values in drop down list in edit screen and submitting record then it is updating that record successfully. I dont have any issue on this. But only one problem, when I am navigating from Details to Edit screen then I should load selected item ID's value in drop down instead of first record(default). But I am not able to load exact selected ID value in drop down.

I think, I am missing some property setting to load and select appropriate value from drop down while navigating and redering Edit Screen. But not sure which one.

Please help me on this and let me know if you need any more information.

You need to convert the value from the text box to number:

Navigate(EditScreen1, {SiteName: Filter('[tst].[Site]', SiteID = Value(DataCardValue21.Text)).SiteName})

Tried this but no luck. Getting error message: Invalid argument type(Record): Expecting a text value instead.

I tried to check the returning value form DataCardValue21.Text and it is returning 6 which is showing in Details screen. Also I check with Value(DataCardValue21.Text). Its also same.

I am little worried on the below command placed in OnSelect property of Edit Icon/Button. Why this is not working and giving typical error messages??

Try Navigate(EditScreen1, {SiteName: First(Filter('[tst].[Site]', SiteID = Value(DataCardValue21.Text))).SiteName}) so that it will give you just one value back.

Using First is not helping here. I am not sure, but looks like error is occuring with different cause. i have tried with taking separte Button but no use. Same error. Not sure what I should I do to resolve??

I'm sorry I have forgot about the transition parameter 😞  I'm not a pro at this either...

The function was complaining that you were giving it the context instead of the transition.

The function Navigate takes 3 params: Target, Transition and Context. So you're function should look like this:

Navigate(EditScreen1, ScreenTransition.None, {SiteName: Filter('[tst].[Site]', SiteID = Value(DataCardValue21.Text)).SiteName})

Great. Now the error from Details page is resolved and navigating to Edit Page. But my edit page error message is still persist in Default Property of SiteID DropDown. I gave default value is SiteName which is comming from Details Page. But it is erroring out. and giving message: The Property expect Text Value, But this rule produce incompatible table value.

Please Help me here and let me know what shoud I setup here to map and load drop down based on SiteName passed though Detailed page.

I think your app is confused because of your naming convention. Your variable 'SiteName' si the same as the value attribute of your items in your data source.

Try renaming your variable to something more meaningful: default_siteName maybe. Make sure you rename it in both screens.

It is not helping more here if I take variable name differently in both page (Detail and Edit). Getting same error after changing these locations.

Detail Page: Navigate(EditScreen1, ScreenTransition.None, {default_SiteName: Filter('[tst].[Site]', SiteID = Value(DataCardValue21.Text)).SiteName})

Hmm to be honest I'm not sure where is that error comming from.

One last thing I would try is to put a text box on the edit screen and give it the value from the default_SiteName - see what comes up there - it might be that the Filtering function needs the First funciton as well - or it might be something with the data type returned there.

I tried with text box in edit page but same thing happending. no value is populating in text box. Moreover, I am not using First funtion in detail page.
