Set permission for Manager based on Sharepoint lists

Hi, I'm developing a leave request system. I want to create a manager's view for the calendar where he can see his department's approved leave on the calendar. Who's the manager depends on the Manager column and it's a choice column. So if the person logged in is Manager then the calendar will display all employees under its Approval Type.  Name is a people column.

The employees' department is based on the Approval Type (a lookup column) and 1 manager is for 1 ApprovalType (department).

  

The calendar has 2 views; 1 is for the current user logged in and the other is the manager's view.

I tried this formula to set the variable and plan to put the variable in the Items property to check if the variable is true then the view is different. But this formula has delegation issues that say Lookup does not work on large datasets.

Set(currentUserManager, LookUp(Employee, If(CurrentUser And Manager.Value="Yes", true)));

How to fix this and create a list of employees based on the department?

Hi @syhrh ,

If I under stand correctly your Employee data source has a column Manager of the yes/no type to indicate is an employee is a manager or not. And you want to use that information in App.Onstart to set the value of a variable currentUserManager of type boolean.

If the above is correct, the below formula will help you out if your data source also has an Email column:

//App.OnStart
Set(CurrentUser, User().Email);
Set(currentUserManager, LookUp(Employee, Email = CurrentUser).Manager.Value = "Yes")

Hi @BCBuizer, I have created the variable and a collection that contains employees in a department. 

ClearCollect(department,GroupBy(AddColumns(Employee,"DepartmentName",ApprovalType.Value),"DepartmentName", "dataRecords"));

how to make the manager and employee of the same ApprovalType from the Employee list be grouped together so that the manager can view his employees under his department alone?

I recommend to use a filter to only collect the items that have the same ApprovalType as the current user:

ClearCollect(department,Filter(Employee, ApprovalType.Value = LookUp(User().Email = Email).ApprovalType.Value

The delegation issue may be overcome by using another variable to take the LookUp out of the Filter():

Set(varUserDepartment, LookUp(Employee, User().Email = Email).ApprovalType.Value);

ClearCollect(department,Filter(Employee, ApprovalType.Value = varUserDepartment));
