Setting a field based on a Choice field

I have a Choice field named Project Type with at least 5 values and I have a dropdown field which is used to display the cascading list of Phases which are contained in a SharePoint list, so based on the Project Type selected I use the filter to display only the relevant Phases. What I would like to do is that when I select the Project Type force a value into the dropdown.

Project Types from the Choice field

Project Phase based on the Choice NPS DVS

In this case I would like to make the ProjectLifeCyclePhase = Proposal (P2D) but I'm unable to do so. I did write a Flow to update the field and when I look at my SharePoint list the Proposal (P2D) is displayed in the view but when I open the List item the value of the field is Ramp to Volume (RV). So any ideas on how I can force a value into the corresponding downstream field as my Flow isn't doing the job?

The flow looks correct!

But when I open the item the value in the list isn't displaying.

Hi @brianhiggins,

Could you please tell me that:

  1. if both of the Project Type and ProjectLifeCyclePhase are Single-line-of-text column type in your SP list?
  2. how you set the Items property of the Project type ComboBox and Project Phase ComboBox?

Do you want to populate the Project Phase ComboBox based on the Project Type ComboBox selected?

If you want to achieve as above, you should set the DefaultSelectedItems property as a certain Project Phase value:

If(ProjectType_Combo.Selected.Result="NPS DVS",["Proposal (P2D)"])

Please clarify more about your data source, there are no Choice fields in your SP list, all of them are Text. We call a field Choice only when we assign it with Choice as below:

Best Regards,

The Project Type is a Choice in the SP List

brianhiggins_0-1629377004779.png

The Project Lifecycle field is another list with the Title and Project Type

brianhiggins_1-1629377177828.png

I use the following Filter to bring back the Title values that match the Project Type (DataCardValue2)

Filter(ProjectLifecyclePhases, ProjectType.Value = DataCardValue2.Selected.Value)

Hope this clarifies.

Brian.

Hi @brianhiggins,

Sorry, I am much more confused.

Are there 3 lists? One for Project Type, another is ProjectLifeCyclePhase with the Title and Project Type, other is a final list where you want to update ProjectLifeCyclePhase and Project Type?

You should explain all your lists one by one and what do you exactly want to achieve.

I have to say that once there is more than one data source, many scenarios may be well understood for you, but for outsiders like us it is confusing and blind.😂

Thanks for your co-operation.

Best Regards,
Qi

Hi Qi,

I have a Parent SharePoint list which I'm building my custom form from using SharePoint Integration. In this list there is a Project Type field of type choice with the following choices.

brianhiggins_0-1629490878679.png

I have create a Lookup field to the second list that has Project Type and Title as per the screenshot.

brianhiggins_1-1629490966766.png

What I would like to do is if I select the Project Type "NPI" then the Project Lifecycle field is populated by "Proposal (P2I)" which is the 1st Phase, like so.

brianhiggins_2-1629491130861.png

If I change the Project Type to "NPI DVS" the the Project Lifecycle should change to "Proposal (P2D", like so.

brianhiggins_3-1629491248809.png

So to recap there is the Parent SP list and the Lookup list and I need a formula to pull the 1st Phase for each of the different Project Types.

One final point the Project Life Cycle field is a dropdown since the Combo doesn't give me the Option to select Title as the Value.

Thanks, Brian.
