Sharepoint Date column default

The date column in Sharepoint has a default of Today.  When creating a new record in the Powerapp we want the default to show on the new form.  When editing an existing record the date should be the value of the existing record.

If I set the default value on the date field in powerapps to Today() the edit form for a new record shows todays date as the default. But if i edit an existing record it modifies the date from the original date to todays date.  I am not sure what i am doing wrong. I want it to work as it does in Sharepoint. When creating a new record in Sharepoint on this list the default date is today and edting an existing record retains the value of the original entry.

Do i need to add somethign to the Default value of the field in Powerapps to make this happen?

You have to modify the Default to this:

If(
  Form1.Mode = FormMode.New,
  Today(),
  Gallery1.Selected.YourDateColumn
)

Form1 is the name of your form.

Gallery1 is where you select your item to be edited.

YourDateCollumn is the date column in SharePoint Lists

Wow, I spent a lot of time trying to figure that out.  It looks like your formula will work for me. I am testing further and will mark as solution once i confirm.  Thank you.

How can i find more information on this that will help me understand thsi better.  I spent far too long struggling with this. Can you point me to some documentation that would have helped me figure this out on my own?  I have another field i want to do somethign similiar. This is a Lokup column in Sharepoint and I want to set the default value.  I will try using your example for the Date column to figur this out and any documentation you can point me to.  If not i will post a new question. Thank you so much for your assistance on this.

Honestly I learned the most by just reading this forums and trial and error.

Also whenever I am working with new function I just type it in google + PowerApps

So for example if i am looking for info on Search() I just do google search "Search PowerApps" or "Filter PowerApps" and it usually directs to the official PowerApps documentation.

I have completed the testing and I am confirming your advice worked for the Date Column.  I will mark that as the Solution.  Thank you.  I also used similar logic to set the default for a Choice column in Sharepoint and that is working as well.  I have tried ti for the People column and i can get it to work for the e-mail property but have struggled with the Full Name property. I will continue to try to resolve that.  Your suggestion has helped me a great deal and I am understanding Powerapps more and more each day.  Thank you again for your assistance.

This works for the Date, How about the Hour Minute.  I am using Text(Hour(Now()),"[$-en-US]00") to get the current Hour and Text(Minute(Now()),"[$-en-US]00") to get the current Minute.

I tried If(
  EditForm1.Mode = FormMode.New,
  Text(Hour(Now()),"[$-en-US]00"),
BrowseGallery1.Selected.DateTime)

But that returned a 00.
