Simple Form will not show during preview & moving data

Hi all,

I have created a simple form which will allow the user to input some data. That data would then go to someone else for approval (Either a link would be sent to that person selected on the submit page of the app) and then stores the data in an excel sheet, sharepoint list or onedrive.

I would like some advice on the best way to do this as I have currently made the app by connecting data/excel tables in onedrive. So now I need to make the connections for the form storage along with notifying the necessary recipients. However, I can not get the app to show in the preview. While EditingWhile EditingPreviewPreviewWhile editingWhile editing

Hi @osgreene,

I would also suggest Microsoft flow if you have any business logic and they giv an easier way to design and maintain your logic. However I will not be able to help you with much of the flow questions and I suggest posting any flow related questions here: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-Flow-Community/ct-p/FlowCommunity.

Just to wrap up, if you have shared your excel with your people as defined in this tutorial:

https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/share-app-data/

The users whom you have shared your app with should be able to view the data.

Also please read through this as to what is nto supported when sharing the app with others.

https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/share-app/

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks once again for using Powerapps.

Hi osgreene,

Can you please give me little more info about the App.

1. how you went about creating this form?

    a. Did you create a blank canvas App and went about adding connections/datasources and then Form control? -  From the images you have attached, it looks like you went this route.

    b. Did you Start with your data? -  This will help you get rid of manually addign everything required for a simple form. You can find the tutorials here: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/connections-list/

2. Which form control did you use for your first screen and Have you set the Item property on the form? - I am thinking it is Edit Form, but wanted to confirm. The form needs to have a record to display and the way you do is by setting "Item" property. If it is Edit Form, usually Item property set is "Defaults(<datasource>)". This creates a blank record for the form and shows up in preview and then can be edited to add your record as shown below. You can read up about the funciton here: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/function-defaults/

Please let me know if this solves your problem.

Thanks for using Powerapps.

Yes, I wanted to make sure that the forms came out properly. I used OneDrive as a connection and tables created in excel.

I did start with my data, but had to tweek the fill options on the form and make some of them drop down menus.

I did utilize Edit Form. The picture below might give a better idea of the Defaults:

Hi Osgreene,

Can you please send me a screenshot of the value of "Item" property in both your screens (General Info and Customer Data) of your form app? You can click on the Form in both screens and go to Advanced tab in right hand pane that shows all the Form Properties or the drop down in the ribbon and select "Item". Like below.

Also I noticed that the first screen has just the fields in form, How would one go to CustomerData from the first screen? or they both part of same table in excel or 2 different tables?

Hi @osgreene,

Just checking in to see if you got a chance to get the screenshot of the "Item" property for your forms?

Thanks

Error message.PNGI fixed the other issue, but now I am having this problem when sharing with others.... I am not sure why as I have shared the data docs with everyone...

Hi @osgreene,

I am glad you were able to resolve the first issue. Just for a closure on your first issue, can you please let me know , if the solution proposed in this thread, was how you resolved the first issue? If not can you please tell what the solution was. It might be beneficial for others who might be in same boat as you.

Regarding the second issue you are having,

a.  When you say you have shared data docs with others, did you mean shared it via Onedrive the excel you were pointing to? Can you tell me the steps exactly taken by you to do the same. This will help me repro the issue on my end.

b. The screen shot you have attached, is this what people are seeing when they run your app that has been shared to them? also your initial screen shots did have this screen so was wondering if this in finished app.

Thanks

Kala

Hello @Kala,

I honestly started over. I could not pinpoint what I did wrong and after 2 weeks and multiple variations I gave in and used a template. I did share the excel docs through OneDrive. I went to OneDrive and chose the share option on the right side of the file.

I finished the app and the screenshots are what the other users see. So I thought it was an issue with them being able to have access to the data, which is why I shared it. I am awaiting a response from the others.

Thank you,

Oriana

Hi @osgreene,

I am sorry that you had to start over. I hope the template made it easier for you this time by connecting all the needed pieces together.

So did you see if you are able to create any records in the excel through your App? Are you able to open the excel in the onedrive and see the records added?
