StartScreen not working as expected or I got the syntax wrong

I am trying to use the new startscreen function and it is not working as I would expect

Here is what I have

basically what I am wanting to have happen is I want to lookup the current user and if their position matches say ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN navigate to the Dashboard by User_ElectronicsTech screen.  when I run the app it just is not going there, what am i missing?

Just to check the silly stuff first have you tested the lookup in a Label first to make sure your formulas like 

LookUp(
            'Apprentice List',
            'Apprentice Email'.Email = User().Email
        ).Position

to make sure they are in fact returning the info (in exact same case usage) that you had expected them to return? Always a good place to start

@TheRobRush I have this same logic working elsewhere and it is returning the correct information, so I am looking to have the current user who logs in have it check the apprentice list and match the Position if it matches navigate to the correct screen.

Not sure whatelse you are wanting me to check?

Ok so next question, I have only ever used Param in one way and its as follows.

If(Param("name")="ET",Set(viewMode,"ET"));

to do this I have to place &name=ET at the end of the url for the app when i type it into a browser, or add it to end of hyperlink. Is this Param being set in like a in app launch to another app? or how is their position title being put into this param in the app link?

@TheRobRush I do not want to do deep linking in that regard, what I am trying to do is check to see who is logged in do they match who is in the apprentice list and if so match the position to the person and navigate to that screen it works when I do it on the On Start which I may be going back to if I cannot get this to work.

Yah, I get that,  but just asking, this formula is checking the value of your Param(), but where is it being set? Because if the Param() is being set in the OnStart, but checked in the StartScreen I am pretty sure it will miss the calculation. They switched to startscreen so you could have a screen displayed instead of nothing while onstart ran through all it's actions/calculations.

I am so lost on this, navigation is no longer an option on the Start Screen, i cant use global var on the start screen and I do not understand how this works, I thought I could use that code to check who the current user is and then navigate to the appropriate start screen I am not doing something right here because it is staying on the first screen no matter what I put on the Start Screen.

Yah unless I am mistaken Param() will always be looking for a variable that has been set in the http: web link

I just tested startscreen for first time checking the User() data, which works  just fine for me if you can find a variable in User() that is suitable.

Well that is what I thought did in the first example doing a lookup on the current user. But that doesn’t seem to be working

No because in your example you said if Param(formula for lookup here)="Position" then, but Param() ios a value at the end of your web address ie ww.powerapps.com/myapp.htm&NAME=Rob 

where the Param(NAME="Rob") is passed to the app
