Struggle with Person Combobox

I've run into an issue (probably a lack of knowledge on my side) when trying to set an DefaultSelectedItem for a ComboBox linked to an 'Person' SP list.

I'm building an (Canvas) app for people to create an item, one of the fields is the 'people involved field'. This is usually the person creating the item, so i decided to prefill the field with the current user.

I've created a CurrentUser variable to store the user on App.Onstart (Set(CurrentUser,User().FullName))

On the Combobox i've set the DefaultSelectedItems with the following:  LookUp(Choices([@Veiligheidmeldingen].Getroffene), DisplayName = CurrentUser)

The problem I'm having is that it works, but only for a small portion of the possible user.

I've found that the Choices([@Veiligheidmeldingen].Getroffene) only returns a limited set (set of 9 users), if the current user is in this set the field get populated, otherwise the field will remain empty. When i search in the combobox I can find any user i want, so the user is 'present' in the list, but not as an default item

Some screenshot from my test:

Choices([@Veiligheidmeldingen].Getroffene) stored in a variable (9 items):

Test setup to change CurrentUser variable to some else. The found user field shows the number of rows in a second variable, wich should be 1 if the user is found in the SP 'Getroffene' column (Peron Type) . (Set(Test,Filter(Choices(Veiligheidmeldingen.Getroffene),DisplayName=CurrentUser))) :

Test with user included in the Test2 variable:

Test with user not included in the test2 variable

It seems to me that the CurrentUser variable is checked against a chached list of the 'Getroffene' Person SP Column instead of the complete list.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Hi @AMeijer ,

Assuming the Combo Box is not associated to a Form control and the Items property is pointing at your Choices field (e.g. Choices([@'Your Data'].'Your People Field'), could you exclude everything else you're doing and add the following to the DefaultSelectedItems property of the Combo Box:

{
    DisplayName: User().FullName,
    Claims: "i:0#.f|membership|" & User().Email
}

Hi @AMeijer ,

Try in the Items

Office365Users.SearchUser({SearchTerm: Self.SearchText, top:999})

Your Data Card Update then needs to change a field name

{
    '@odata.type': "#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedUser",
    Claims: "i:0#.f|membership|" & Lower(ComboBoxName.Selected.Mail),
    Department: ComboBoxName.Selected.Department,
    DisplayName: ComboBoxName.Selected.DisplayName,
    Email: ComboBoxName.Selected.Mail
}

 Also DefaultSelectedItems

{DisplayName: CurrentUser}

Hi all, thanks for the quick responses!

I've tested the suggestions, it's not yet working as intended.

The {DisplayName: CurrentUser} does show the username, regardless if the user can be found with the lookup funtion. It is also possible to select more persons, but when submitting the form it shows the field as being empty (three testruns):

AMeijer_0-1686742262544.png

For testing purposes i moved the SelectedItems to an collection to see what's in them:

AMeijer_1-1686742317420.png

As you can see the CurrentUser variable is entered with only it's DisplayName, the ones selected with the Combobox show additional properties. If i remove the CurrentUser and add it back manually it does show all the fields, and the Submit will also populate the field with the selected users

Below the settings for the ComboBox:

@AMeijer ,

That is nothing like what I posted for the rest of it

@WarrenBelz, I overlooked your reply, sorry.

This also seems not to work:

The Items & DefaultselectedItems

AMeijer_1-1686750081075.png

It does result in the combobox displaying the text of CurrentUser (this also works if the items are set to the SP list)

AMeijer_3-1686750956981.png

The Update field:

AMeijer_2-1686750174715.png

The values remain blank,  and the form won't update (field is required). It also doesn't work when you pick a different user from the combobox, the update fields remain blank

Hi @AMeijer ,

I am surprised the Update does not work as I tested it here with the same settings. However put this in the DefaultSelectedItems

{
    DisplayName: User().DisplayName,
    Mail: User().Email,
    Claims: "i:0#.f|membership|" & Lower(User().Email)
}

Hi @WarrenBelz,

It doesn't seem to work. For whatever reason, for some users the DefaultSelectedItems doesn't work. It display's the name properly, but the combobox is unable to match the value to one of the possible items from the source set under Items.

In a test with multiple selected items, the DefaultSelectedItems is skipped, and the manually chosen items are updated to the SP List. When I remove the DefaultSelectedItems and add the user back in (manually from the combobox) it is able to find it (and update the SP list accordingly).

I think I will have to live with the fact that for some users the DefaultSelectedItems will not work, and they have to manually enter their own user.

Thanks for the suggestions!
