This.item text shown, but only after re-naming the screen in the app????

Got an odd, and ongoing issue.

I have been trying for the longest time to get Lookup working as, as far as I understand, more than two level lookup relationships will not work in gallery view or in the powerapps verse (extremely disapointing when access does this so easily). For example, ThisItem.Employee.Employer.Employer will go to the Employee table, look for the employer lookup value, and display the field Employer in the Employer table. Thisitem is refering to a table called Employees Courses.

The full route of lookups in the tables is effectively Employees Courses Table > Employees Field Lookup > Employees Table > Employer Field Lookup > Employerss Table > Emplorer Text field.

Althoug I understand the distance that this lookup relationship goes, its shouldn't work with ThisItem.Employee.Employer.Employer, it does display if I rename the screen?

I have so far been unable to get it to display the text using the lookup function though, if somone is able to help with getting the above working or where I'm going wrong with the lookup function, it would be greatly appreciated.

My lookup function is in the text field for a Label called 'Employer Name' which is within a gallery which is linked to the Employees Courses table.

LookUp('Employees Courses','Employer Name'=ThisItem.Employee.Employer.Employer).Employer

Images below for reference.

You didn't explain the relationship for "Courses Attendeds" but it doesn't make sense to do this lookup. You try to reference to ".CourseSelection.Course" by using "CourseSelection.Course".

I assume "Courses Attendeds" is connected to "Employees Courses" and you want to display the column "Course" of another Table by using the Lookup-Column "CourseSelection". Is that correct?

If so it is the same thing as before.

Lookup(SecondTable, GUIDofSecondTable = ThisItem.LookupToSecondTable.GUIDofSecondTable).LookupToThirdTable.ColumnOfThirdTable

Some additional images to show the renaming refresh fix that works within edit mode, but not once published. Notice all that has changed is the re-naming of the screen that is selected with an s at the end.

And even if published in this state, it does not work in the published app.

Anyone?

Hello @Vandalus

shouldn't the lookup reference to the Employees table? Otherwise you will have the same Problem with the 2 lookups. So something like:

LookUp(Employees, Employee = ThisItem.Employees.Employee).Employer.Name

Honestly not sure, I'm still not quite able to wrap my head around how the lookup function is supposed to be formatted, even with the microsoft guidance. The gallery the labels are sited in uses the data source called Employees Courses, it filters based on the following: Filter('Employees Courses', ComboBox1.Selected.Employer in Employee.Employer.Employer) The combo box's data source is linked to the Employerss table.

I'm quite interested in why the ThisItem.Employee.Employer.Employer works when I rename the screen though.

There are so many bugs in this platform. Don't mind about things temporäre working, while they shouldn't. The error message is clear so it shouldn't work. You won't get an answer you will be happy about if you create a ticket that something that shouldn't work, sometimes work for a short time.

Does the provided lookup work for you?

Thanks Matthy,

That's pretty much been my experience with the ticket support system too.

I've managed to get it to display the employers, but not the Course.

I had to modify the lookup slightly and it works using: LookUp(Employees, Employee = ThisItem.Employee.Employee).Employer.Employer

But have been unable to get the Course name lookup working with: LookUp('Courses Attendeds', Course = ThisItem.CourseAttended.CourseSelection.Course).CourseSelection.Course

Is my understanding correct?

The source will be the table where the initial lookup value has to come from, the condition then consists of 'LookupFieldintable = ThisItem.routetakentogettofinallookupvalue and after the closed brakets, the fields we want to display based on that value?

The source is whatever table you would like to look at. In your case it will be the second level. The condition is the value of your first lookup. So now you have a record of your second table and can go one step further using the next lookup column. This will be the third step you couldn’t get directly. Hope that clears things up.

Thanks Again,

Managed to get it working with the following lookup, but it only displays in preview. It stops displaying when published. Will I need a secondary lookup condition due to this being a third level lookup?

LookUp('Courses Attendeds', Course = ThisItem.CourseAttended.CourseSelection.Course).CourseSelection.Course
