Toggle to change 'Quick View Form' Filtered Views

Hello all,

How do I configure a Yes/No Toggle Control Column on a Main Form to switch between 2 customized filtered and sorted 'Views' used in a Form's embedded 1-to-Many 'Quick View Form'?

For example:

1) Do I have the Toggle Form Control on the Many side of the Column Lookup Relationship, or on the 1 side?

2) Do I have to use the 'Classic' editor to gain access to the Component 'Toggle View Form Control Logic'?

3) Etc...

Regards,

Cosmo Kramer

@CosmoKramer

When you mentioned 1-to-Many 'Quick View Form', does it mean

  • 1-to-Many 'Subgrid' which shows the view of many related records OR
  • Many-to-1 'Quick View Form' which shows the fields of the lookup value from the parent table?

In either case, you can show/hide the components using JavaScript on change of the toggle control (Yes/No field value)

To answer your above question, I'd like my Main Form to have 2 filtered 'View' options embedded within a single 'Quick View Form', but a QVF can only have 1 assigned static View.

Your above reference link Using JavaScript to Set Quick View Form Visibility in Dynamics 365 | Magnetism Solutions | NZ (Auckl... mentions how to hide/show a 'Quick View Form', but not how to either call a different 'Quick View Form' (which can't be done), or change the applied View Filter within the QVF.

I tried cloning the 'Quick View Form' to make the other logic QVF for it, but as per my below screenshot, my 'Copy As' resulted in a 'Public View' and not a 'Quick View Form' object being created.

@CosmoKramer

Can you add x2 QVF and show/hide accordingly using JavaScript?

The Power App editor only always you to create new 'Public View' and not 'Lookup View'...

When you mentioned "Quick View Form", did you actually mean the Lookup View?

In your screenshot, I can only see two lookup fields Generic and Specific Injury Name Lookups. So, I am assuming you were talking about showing different lists of records when the user chooses a value in the lookup based on the toggle value (because Lookup View is not really related to the QVF)

If my assumption is correct, you can use the setDefaultView JavaScript to set the default view for the lookup control by providing the GUID of the public views (Generic, Specific) that you created.

Here is a blog post with a sample code.

https://www.cloudfronts.com/blog/dynamics-crm/filter-regarding-using-javascript/

It's mentioned as the solution #2 in this blog post too.

https://www.hellosmart.ca/2023/01/tips-filter-lookup-type-field-values-in.html

If my assumption is incorrect and if you are really really referring to 'Quick View Form', can you please provide more details (screenshot of your quick view form in design mode and/or draft drawing (if you cannot achieve with the screenshot) of what you want to achieve when the toggle is No and how it is different when the toggle is Yes)

Hello again,

To answer your question, it is a QVF being filtered by the 'View' option from the toggle...

So this functionality needs to:

- The Toggle control needs to be linked to the 2 View options

- The 2 Views are filtered by #1 'Generic/Specific' and #2 'Animal Tax. Name' from the 1-to-MANY Injury Table (as shown below)

- Present this selected sorted View within the QVF

Lastly, from the below image of my entire Main Form, how do I make the form look more continuous without having the local Table Lookup Columns stand-out in bold blue and then display the resulting search in a 'Quick View Form'?

Plus, please feel free to suggest any Form improvements 🙂

Lastly, as you are a Kiwi, I bet you love hearing about our very cute Australian Brushtail possums which have taken over your country...NOT!!!

Cheers,

Cosmo

@CosmoKramer

Sorry for the late reply. It's been a busy week. 😅

Do you mean your QVF has a subgrid and you want to filter the records shown in that subgrid dynamically based on the toggle? In that case, there is no supported way to dynamically filter the subgrid view. The subgrid will just show all the related records for the Injury Name.

Re: your last question, it is pretty common to have the QVF under the lookup and the last screenshot looks OK to me. But if you want to separate the lookup and the QVF, you may add an x2 column section and keep the lookup + editable fields on the left and QVFs on the right-hand side (as in the screenshot below) which may look a bit clearer.

PS: I've been here for 7.5 years and I've only seen the possum traps so far (and not the actual ones 😀)

Me again  🙂

Thanks for above answer #2 -> I've now made that Main Form Column/Format change and it looks good  🙂

In regards to my above question #1 -> How do I get my red highlighted Toggle to automatically switch between the two corresponding QVF's (with the corresponding 2 View Filters), displayed within this Main Form on another Table?

a) The Main Form

b) The corresponding Views

c) The corresponding Filters

@CosmoKramer

Just to re-clarify question #1, I cannot visualise how QVF involves in your scenario. Maybe QVF will show up when you populate the lookup values but those are not directly related to the toggle, right?

Based on your screenshot, here is what I understand

When the user changes the value of the "red highlighted Toggle" (Specific Injury Animal Lookup Filter) to

  • - "No"
    • show the first blue lookup (Injury Name - Targeted Animal GENERIC Lookup)
      • when the user clicks on that lookup 🔍, show the records from the "_GENERIC Mammal - Injury - LOOKUPS" view
    • hide the second lookup
  • - "Yes"
    • Show the second blue lookup (Injury Name - Targeted Animal SPECIFIC Lookup)
      • when the user clicks on that lookup 🔍, show the records from the "_SPECIFIC Mammal - Injury - LOOKUPS" view
      •
    • Hide the first lookup

If my assumption is not correct, can you please take a screenshot and edit it a bit to demonstrate how it is supposed to be shown for each toggle value?
