Transfer App from a sharepoint List to another List

A few months ago we created a copy of a sharepoint list, for me to create a form around it. It used Infopath before. To not just work on the live originial list, we created the copy, in the hopes of us being able to transfer that form to the original list.

I did not open up Powerapps, create a new app and use the copy as a datasource, instead i opened up the sharepoint list (clicked edit form on the intergration tab) and started working on the app that way.

I had the hope that changing the datasource to the original list instead of the copy, would allow me to just change the settings from the original list to "custom powerapps form" instead of infopath, and it would automatically open the powerapp when using the list from that point on. However, as you can probably tell, that did not work. We then tried to share my app with the admin, so that he can somehow use that app as the source for the original list, how ever if i try to share my app i get the following error:

My question now is: Is there a way for me to solve this problem, or do i have to create a whole new app for the orignal list?

I hope someone can help me out. Thank you in advance!

When i try to import the app on our admin account i get the following error:

DominicWill_0-1681920511931.png

which translated means something like "Theres already an app existing for this sharepoint List. Delete the existing app, before adding a new one"

Which i dont understand, because i went into the sharepoint list settings of the original list and deleted the old powerapps form (Someone else tried to make one a fewq years back). Right now the list is still using infopath as i mentioned.

Im honestly quite lost.

Hi @Anonymous ,
When you work with Sharepoint forms customized in power apps and you want to move power app form from one list to other list (environment would be default environment), please follow below steps -
1. Go to sharepoint list settings >> form settings >> see versions and usage >> export package

2. Exported package will be in zip form. Open the package, click on Microsoft Power Apps folder >> apps folder >> <number> folder >> <number>.json file
3. Open the json file in VS code or notepad++ and change the list guid, list url and site path inside "

embeddedApp" object.
4. After making these changes save the json file and upload this package on power apps portal.

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

I tried that. However now when i try to import the package, i just get the following error:

DominicWill_0-1682352553625.png

Any idea what else i could try? Or do i need to redo the entire app on the original list?

If you extracted the file first, make sure when you zipped it again, that you zipped the "manifest.json" file and "Microsoft.PowerApps", not the parent folder that they are in.

My issue with this is that it used to work about 6 months ago. Now it looks like it works, but doesn't actually function. The issue is that there are hidden data connection values in "SharePointIntegration" that you can't modify in PowerApps. The values can be found in the .msapp file in the controls folder and you can edit them with the following steps:

- Extract the zip file
- Open the .msapp file with "Open Archive" using 7zip and open the "Controls" folder
- Update your connections in the "1.json" file by right clicking in 7zip archive and selecting "Edit"

The problem is, if you import this app, it will import, but "SharePointIntegration" will suddenly be missing completely and cause a bunch of different errors. If you also or only update the other #.json file in the controls folder with the new data connections, you will instead be greeted with a blank app with no form and no "SharePointIntegration".

It is endlessly frustrating and basic functionality that Microsoft should have if they want their PowerApps to even be considered as an acceptable development platform. Somehow PowerApps has done nothing but lose functionality over the years...

I also don't understand why they allow you to download the .msapp file alone, when they offer no way to make changes and reimport that .msapp file into anything else. Their functionality to import and update an existing app also doesn't work for customized forms, because they don't show up in the app list to select. PowerApps is a complete disaster and joke.
