Transfer settings to view form from New form

Hi @WarrenBelz

Another issue I'm having is that the view form isn't displaying the datacards based on the value of another datacard in the edit form. If you cast your mind back you kindly helped me put this together in the edit form, which still works. Thank you!  Unfortunately the configuration doesn't transfer to the view form when reviewing list items, (the view form has the same set up as it was duplicated from the original) so when looking at the list item only half of the data is displayed.

In case its all a bit grey, Ive put the setup below 🙂

Datacard 10 is set to: UpdateContext({vQty:Value(DataCardValue10.Text)})

The OnVisible of the Screen is set to: UpdateContext({vQty:0})

There are 12 product lines which appear pending the value (1-12) is entered.

Again, this works in the edit form but doesn't seem to get transferred.

Note: Under one list I now have 3 forms, two of them were duplicated from the original. They are for the displaying purposes of New, Edit and View modes. Is this right?  Im going by what I have found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaCTT7bPuQg&list=PLMLjnY5iPR3Xa8WrL2nRqVO0CWZkZpYPh&index=2

Happy to post screen shots etc.

Thanks again

I mentioned the solution 11 messages ago (highlighted red bit)

But the green box OnChange event is triggered when a user changes something which is after the form is opened. vQty is not set until the user does this, so how can the form possibly show anything when opened? This is not a restriction in Power Apps, it it exactly what you have asked it to do. Had you put the same code in the OnVisible of the form and there was value stored, the fields should show.

`You need this in the OnVisible

UpdateContext({vQty:Value(qtyReq.Text)})

so you are actually doing the same thing as entering data in the field.
For your own sake and sanity, please read this document on Variables

Hi @WarrenBelz

Under further investigation, even thought the view form doesnt present the relevant product lines, if I select edit on that list item, im then able to reveal the product lines by re-entering a value, but again after saving and then viewing the item, the product lines dont appear.

Could it be that an automated action is missing which will mimic the action of a physical action of pressing the enter button on the keyboard on Datacard 10 in the view form? Crazy thought but I like to think there is logic behind it 🙂

Thanks

Hi @MiniMe83 ,

Focusing on your statement

the view form isn't displaying the datacards based on the value of another datacard in the edit form.

do you refresh your data source after saving a record in the Edit form before going to the View form?

Hi @WarrenBelz

Early morning? I refresh the SharePoint list after saving a new item in the list by ctrl F5 and clear any cached data in the browser to be sure.....

Hi @MiniMe83 ,

No I meant using Refresh(YourListName) in Power Apps after you save the Edit form.

If you do not do this, there is a very good chance that updated data will not show on your View screen.

Hi @WarrenBelz

This is something definitely new. Are you able to point me in the direction on how I would find this so I could check?

Hi @MiniMe83 ,

You just need to put that in the code after SubmitForm of the Edit form - when you write to the data source, the next form needs to show the updated information.

SubmitForm(YourFormName);
Refresh(YourListName)

Hi @WarrenBelz

I may have mixed thing up slightly, the "OnSave" setting via sharepoint integrations is:

if(SharePointFormMode="CreateForm", SubmitForm(FormNew), If(SharePointFormMode="EditForm", SubmitForm(FormEdit)))

The above standard save button seems to save but doesn't vanish after being selected (im assuming this is down to the requesthide function not being in there) and the form also changes slightly with two additional datacards appearing without being selected but appear anyway.

.......and the additional save button I have put in has the "OnSelect" set up as:

SubmitForm(FormNew); Refresh('v3 Provisional Enquiry Form'); RequestHide()

What I am after is for the form data to be saved as a new item in the list, this works, reset the form for the next user, this does work but you briefly see the last form before becoming to default, and to allow the content the user enters to be seen in the view form....

Thanks again for your help

Hi @MiniMe83 ,

I did not realize this was not a stand-alone app.

You are correct about the RequestHide() - this closes the form.

As you have a RequestHide() immediately  after the Refresh, it is a bit of a waste of time as you are closing the form and SharePoint will refresh anyway. If you are doing a new form also, refreshing is a waste of time - it is only good for going to an edit or view form after data has been changed. So if you are giving the user a new form, what is it exactly you want them to see on it?

I am still a bit lost with your statement The view form isn't displaying the datacards based on the value of another datacard in the edit form. as we are now talking about a new form.

Hi @WarrenBelz

This must be frustrating for you, sorry. No separate app. One list with 3 forms. If you look at the screen shots, it will show you how the form is set in tree view and how it evolves as you complete the sections on the new form, this works fine. Its just saving it properly. Which I will show in my second reply as I can only attach 3 items per reply 🙂
