OnStart of application I have the code: Set(VarStartID,Param("h_s_id")) ***This allows me to pick up an ID passed in a querystring
On the form "Item" parameter I have: LookUp('Personal Use Form', ID=VarStartID) ***This assigns the ID to the current Item
On the form "DefaultMode" parameter I have: If(Value( VarStartID)>1, FormMode.Edit,FormMode.New) ***This has form in New mode unless and ID is passed then it is in Edit mode.
This works great and lets me deep dive into a specific item from an Email link where I pass the ID.
in Email Link to form you grab the link from PowerApps Details screen:
https://apps.powerapps.com/play/3f58ed74-2a44-41c2-b64c-89934a5560e2?tenantId=7a51f8f6-9ab4-4b15-ab1...
Add "?h_s_id=" to end then variable for the ID.
If you have a Gallery with a button on it to go to that item use the following code:
Set(varMode,"Edit"); Select(Parent); Navigate(SponsorActivationForm,ScreenTransition.Fade,{VarStartID:ThisItem.ID})
Set(varMode,"Edit"); ***This sets the form Mode to Edit so the fields will come up with the items in it.
Select(Parent); ***This is what is already on the OnSelect to start with
Navigate(SponsorActivationForm,ScreenTransition.Fade,{VarStartID:ThisItem.ID}) ***This navigates to the form page and sets the VarStartID value
This code works awesome too but it stops the initial code from working. I think there is Issue in the line:
Set(varMode,"Edit"); Select(Parent); Navigate(SponsorActivationForm,ScreenTransition.Fade,{VarStartID:ThisItem.ID})
I am getting a warning "This formula uses scope, which is not presently supported for evaluation."
The crazy thing is the code works. It takes me to the form and the form opens with the passed ID so the correct record loads.
The problem is when this code is in there for the "OnSubmit" for the button it causes the initial code that was working where an Email can launch the form by an ID passed to fail. When the button code is deleted the Email solution works but the button code dies. When the button code is in there the button works but the Email solution fails.
It's like I am on a code teeter totter.
I really need these both to work at the same time. I think it has something to do with the common variable.

Hi @GregGuth :
Sorry, there is an error in my code. Please replace the ":" by ",",
Set(varMode,"Edit"); Select(Parent);Set(VarStartID,ThisItem.ID);Navigate(SponsorActivationForm,ScreenTransition.Fade)

Hi @GregGuth :
Maybe the data type of Param("h_s_id") is text,If so please try this code:
Set(varMode,"Edit"); Select(Parent);Set(VarStartID,Text(ThisItem.ID));Navigate(SponsorActivationForm,ScreenTransition.Fade)
Best Regards,

Hi @GregGuth ,
try this:
First(DropColumns(Filter(AddColumns('Sponsor Activation',"valID",ID*1),Value(valID)=Value(VarStartID)),"valID"))
I hope this resolved your issue if you see any challenge/need further help please let me know I am always happy to do it for my community.

Hi @GregGuth :
VarStartID in Set(VarStartID,Param("h_s_id")) is a global variable.
VarStartID in Navigate(SponsorActivationForm,ScreenTransition.Fade,{VarStartID:ThisItem.ID}) is a context variable.
Although they have the same name, they are essentially two variables with different values.
Please try :
Set(varMode,"Edit"); Select(Parent);Set(VarStartID:ThisItem.ID);Navigate(SponsorActivationForm,ScreenTransition.Fade)
Best Regards,
Bof
I actually tried that and couldn't get the syntax to work on that either. When I paste in that code this is what I am seeing:
Any suggestions?

I think we are close. It does go to your original point, that is a global variable so I basically need to update that global variable.
The code you provided basically was giving me the same issue I was having before. It says:
Incompatible type. We can't evaluate your formula because the context variable types are incompatible with the types of values in other places in your app.
This is where I am challenged, how do we update a global variable from here?

That was it, it works perfectly, but just as my initial code did, when the button works the other code to allow an Email to open an item directly fails. It's like I can get one working bot not both... Here is the code I have in place that works as long as the button code we just got working breaks...
To have a form load to a specific item do the following:
OnStart of application add the code: Set(VarStartID,Param("StartID"))
On the form "Item" parameter add: LookUp('Personal Use Form', ID=VarStartID) ***This assigns the ID to the current Item
On the form "DefaultMode" parameter add: If(Value( VarStartID)>1, FormMode.Edit,FormMode.New) ***This has form in New mode unless a value is passed.
Now that we have the button working the ID is no longer being picked up by the onStart event and so now it hangs with the usual "Getting Your Data" message.
I have always been able to get one or the other working but never both at the same time...
Hi,
I am getting delegation error on my filter with that:
Filter('Sponsor Activation'ID=VarStartID)
