Unable to update single record in Grid like Structure in Power apps, though able to bulk update the records

Hi, I am Unable to update single record in Gridlike Structure in Power apps, though able to bulk update the records,

Created Grid like structure by referring to Razza Durani videos.

There is an Update button, having reference to what all fields user wants to update, once all records are selected using chkbox all, grid as well as Data source is updated once hitting Exit/Edit button.

But, on checking individual checkbox, particular record is not getting updated, instead again all the records are updated while hitting Edit/Exit button.

Please let me know how to update one record at a time, I don't want to loose Bulk update functionality either

Wow, you have made this harder on yourself than you would need.

Collections, Patch, and UpdateIf are functions that do more or less the same thing. No need to mix them. And you don't need to have colSelected to know which item has been selected in what I would guess is a Gallery?

So what you could do is create an empty collection in your OnVisible

Clear(colGridCollection)

Then add the item in your gallery to the collection that you would want to save with the OnCheck property of your checkbox:

Collect(colGridCollection,{ID:Thisitem.ID,Col1:Textboxupdate.Text})

Then the only thing you would need to do is update the list with all items in your colGridCollection

ForAll(colGridCollection,UpdateIf(SPlist,SPlist[@ID]=colGridCollection[@ID],{Col1:colGridCollection[@Col1]}))

That would do the job I guess.
Extra tips: You might want to consider leaving the checkbox checked as a feedback to the user that the item will be saved. And then uncheck all checkmarks only after pressing the save button. And you might consider giving the option to 'undo' the change by unselecting the checkmark before the users hits the Save button (which would then remove the item from the collection and reset the textinput) 🙂

Could you please share the code of your Update and your Edit/Exit button?

There should be something like this in the code:

UpdateIF(MyList,ID in Filter(Gallery.AllItems,CheckBox.Value=true).ID, {Column1:TexintInputColumn1.Text}))

Using UpdateIf takes care that only specific records in your Grid are updated. And I am checking upon a unique ID and only updating the records that have an ID of one of the checked Gallery items.

UpdateIF(MyList,ID in Filter(Gallery.AllItems,CheckBox.Value=true).ID, {Column1:TexintInputColumn1.Text}))

Tried using above for Update as well as Edit/Exit button, but getting N/W error in Patch : Columns is read only

@RogierE

One container with label as Col1 & text box as Textboxupdate which is used to update records in gallery grid on clicking checkbox
control & having onSelect code as:

UpdateIf(
colGridCollection,
ThisRecord in colSelected,
{'Col1':Textboxupdate.Text}
);

Clear(colSelected);
Reset(ChkBoxAll)

Now Exit/Edit button having below Patch function:

Patch('SPlist',
UpdateIf(colGridCollection,Created=ThisRecord.Created,
{'Col1':Textboxupdate.Text}));

Hi, All

Could you please provide me the resolution on priority

Of course! (But don’t forget to mark my above answer as the solution, so that others get guided to the anwer to your first question ☺️)

  • leaving the checkbox checked: remove the code for Reset on your OnCheck
  • uncheck all checkmarks only after pressing the save button: at the Onselect of your save button, add a formula Reset(gallery1) and make sure the default value of your check mark in the gallery is false
  • 'undo' the change by unselecting: add a RemoveIf (colGridCollection, ID=ThisItem.ID) to the OnUncheck property of your checkbox

Hi @Aag12 @one tip about the forum. A thumbs/up is of course a nice gesture as a thanks for my help. But marking it as a solution helps others that might have the same problem getting to the answer more quickly.

Hi @RogierE , Thanks.
