Update SharePoint Choice Colum with Text Input

Hello All-

I have a SPO List, in which one of the column is choice and allows fill in choices. There are 5 choices and out of those 5 choices one of them is other, if a user selects other a text input box appears to input text in my canvas  app. However the SPO list only shows Other and not the txt that was input. Can you please advise on how i can update the list column with that typed txt when the Selection is other ?

Consider using write-in choices very carefully.  The choices can get out of hand very quickly with a lot of write ins.

A better choice is to have a separate column to contain the "Other" value, or a separate list to contain all the choices.

The design decision will be based on - do you want ALL of the write-ins to be available to everyone (i.e. a growing list of choices) or do you want the "other" value to be contained to the record for which it is connected?

As for setting the Choice column, it depends on if you are using a Patch statement or if you are in a Form.  Either way, you just simply need to supply a value to the Choice   {Value: "Your Other Value Here"}

@RandyHayes thank you for the explanation, I am not sure if I am understanding it or explaining in a better way. I have attached the datacard hopefully which will makes sense. 

The update property for the Control I am trying is 

If(DataCardValue22.Selected.Value = "Other", TextInput2.Text, DataCardValue22.Selected.Value). 

The list column only shows other but not the value specified in Textinput2. I want the column to be updated by text in TextInput2 if the request type is other.

Yes, that formula will not work properly.

It would need to be this:

If(DataCardValue22.Selected.Value = "Other", 
    {Value: TextInput2.Text}, 
    DataCardValue22.Selected
)

This assumes that your DataCardValue22 dropdown has Choices being used in the Items property of it.  AND that the underlying column you are trying to update is the actual Choice column.

Is the column Request Type your Choice column?

What is the Items property of the Dropdown?  And while were at is...what is the Default?  I am assuming that it is a Dropdown...if it is a Combobox, then provide the Items property and the DefaultSelectedItems property formulas.

Default property for DataCardValue22 is blank but for the control itself default is ThisItem.'Request Type'

DefualtSelectedItems Property is Parent.Default

Okay...all checked out well.

What happens if you do NOT select "Other" and write in text?  Does it update the list with the selected choice?

The Textinput box only appears if the selection is other.

Understood, but the question is - if you do NOT select Other and simply select an existing choice, does the current formula update the list with the correctly selected choice?
