Update TextBox field value when Combo Box selected

Hi,

I am trying to update the textbox field when combo box is selected in Power Apps form.

The combo box has two columns which are retrieved from an Excel spreadsheet (called GP and Email)

When I add

InputEmail.Value = CBBoxClinic.Selected.Email

into the OnSelect for the combobox and

CBBoxClinic.Selected.Email

into the Value of the Text Box, it displays the email address in a text box but when I pass the value to Power Automate, it says "invalid value for parameter 'boolean' - a blank value was passed to it where it was not expected" error message.

I checked and found that the text box value is not passing the value and it's empty even I changed the value by choosing it from combo box.

What I am trying to do is user can select it from combo box and passing the email address to the value of the text box as well as user can enter the email address manually.

When user enter the email address manually, it works. But when I use the combo box, it doesn't work.

I am using the form in Teams and it is slightly different as what I was using it from the website build. Even the Combo Box option is different. It worked fine when I tried from site build.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Damian

I would guess that there's some other code running that's causing the blanks - somewhere. You could look on controls such as TextInputs, Dropdowns, Toggles, Checkboxes, etc looking for any reference to the variable in the OnChange, OnSelect, OnCheck, OnUncheck events to try and see what's affecting what.

Maybe you wrote some old code and have forgotten it's there (I've done this before) or you have inherited the app from someone else but I'd say this is the likely cause.

You can use the new Search feature to help you find the reason as well.

Good to see you have it sorted though for now, well done.

@warang

Have you tried using a variable? Eg OnChange of the ComboBox (assuming the ComboBox is Single select only)

Set( vClinicEmail, First(CBBoxClinic.SelectedItems).Email)

Also need to adjust the OnChange and DelayOutput of your TextInput, like so

// OnChange
Set( vClinicEmail, Self.Text)

// DelayOutput
true

Then, use vClinicEmail as the Default of the TextInput and also inside of your Flow.

Hi Eddie,

I have tried your solution but still getting the same error. This is so strange as the vClinicEmail is showing in Text Box but when passed the value to the Power Automate, it's getting the same error message. What could be wrong?

@warang

Can you share the code used to run the Flow inside of PowerApps and also a screenshot of the error it is throwing. I may be able to pick something up from there.

Also, what Flow trigger are you using? Is it PowerApps V2 trigger?

Hi Eddie,

Thanks for your help.

Below is the code passing to the Power Automate

SubmitForm(Doc_Del_Form);
DocumentDeletionTemplate.Run
(Text(InputNHI.Value),
Text(vClinicEmail),
Text(DrpDownCounties.Selected.Value),
Text(User().Email),
Text(InputDocDate.SelectedDate, "dd/mm/yyyy"),
CKBoxAmendLetter.Checked,
Text(InputAmendDate.Value, "dd/mm/yyyy"),
Text(InputSubject.Value),
Text(InputReason.Value),
Text(InputTicketNo.Value),
Text(InputID.Value),
Text(Office365Users.MyProfile().mobilePhone));
Notify("Email sent Successfully",NotificationType.Success);

It works great if I enter the email address manually. Just not working when I chose from Combo Box

This is the error message I am getting when I chose the clinic from combo box list which is pulling out from Excel spreadsheet. No issues getting data from table.

FYI, instead of using cVlinicEmail, I tried using InputEmail.value and also CBBoxClinic.Selected.Email as well but none of these are working. (Also tried Text() too)

Yes, used PowerApps V2 trigger in Power Automate

Thanks

@warang

Thanks for this.

Is it possible that the second parameter in your Flow (ie the one expecting an email) was originally of Type true/false (ie boolean)? Seems to me that's what the error message is saying.

If so, then I'd remove this parameter, save the Flow, then add a new Text Type parameter for the Email.

If not, I'd still remove the parameter, save the flow and add it back. Seems it may have somehow got corrupted - this can happen in a number of different ways, some are just weird.

Thanks Eddie for your help.

I figured out why it's not working. It was the CKBoxAmendLetter.Checked and looks like it is randomly passing the blank value for some reason. I have changed it to the toggle instead of the tick box and added if statement and worked fine.

But the funny thing is why it is not working every time I choose from the clinic list. Is it not supposed to be the same result when I manually enter the email address in a text box?
