Update a field in a SharePoint list via button in a Power app form

I am still new to the topic of Power Apps, but the first processes and solutions are already there 🙂

Unfortunately I have not found an helpful answer to my problem in the forum.

I have a SharePoint Online list. I have created a form in Power App for this list. Works very well. New elements can be created with the form.

Now I want to add a button to the form, which changes a value in a field from the list when clicked. The field is a selection field.
So my goal is, when button A is pressed in the form, the SharePoint list field X should contain the value "Value 1". When button B is pressed, the SharePoint list field X should contain the value "Value 2".

If you are using a form, insert 2 buttons and put this formula to change the mode of the form from New to Edit or vice versa:

Button1 OnSelect:

EditForm(YourFormName)

Button2 OnSelect:

NewForm(YourFormName)

After cliking the buttons, the form mode would change to Edit to enable you change the value1 to value2,

Then click on your SubmitForm(YourFormName) to update the record.

The value of the SharePoint List field should change automatically when the button is clicked. A manual change of the field by the user in the form is not the goal.

Based on the issue that you mentioned, do you want to update a Choice field clicking a button?

Could you please share a bit more about the scenario, do you have a Combo Box to be filled with the field X?

Tell me that if you have a Combo Box to select, or just update the Choice column clicking the button. If you only use the button to update the Choice column, let me know that because this is totally different if you have a Combo Box but not select options manually.

Or maybe you don't actually have a Combo Box at all, you just need a Text input control to display the updated field X value.

In addition, if you use separate buttons to update the Choice column but also click submit button to submit form, I think there will be something wrong when you create a new record. 

To sum it up, please answer me the following questions:

1. do you want to update a Choice field clicking a button
2. If you only use the button to update the Choice column and never select the options manually
3. do you have a Combo Box or a Text Input control to display the Choice column
4. do you want to create a new record or edit an existing record

If you just want to edit an existing record, I think you should use the Patch() function.

Patch(SPList,LookUp(SPList,ID=xxx),{ChoiceColumn:{Value:"Value1"}})

Please give me more details.

Name of SharePoint list = "Änderungsanträge"

i have this Button "Zur Genehmigung senden" in the form

if this Button is clicked, the following existing field "Status" from the SharePoint list should change to "in Genehmigung". This field is a picklist with predefined values (no change of the values by the user, only change with power automate or the button)

This should work for the actual item, which is currently open by the user. so a existing record is to be changed.

Hi @P4AndiIT,

Do you want to update the Status to "in Genehmigung" the  clicking the button?

How you ensure which record to update, do you have a Gallery to select the aimed record and navigates you to the Form?

I think the most likely scenario is that you have a Gallery to display all the records, and you select one record and navigates you to the form to update it. 

Or you could check how you set the Item property of your form, copy it to the Patch() formula as the second parameter. For example, I refer to the LookUp()  as the second parameter in my Patch, you should replace it with the formula you set for the Item property of your form

Patch(SPList,LookUp(SPList,ID=xxx),{ChoiceColumn:{Value:"Value1"}})

If your scenario is like the above, please set the OnSelect of the button as below:

Patch('Änderungsanträge',
       Gallery1.Selected, // Please just copy the formula in the Item property of your form here
       {Status:{Value:"in Genehmigung"}})

Note that I assume that you set the Form Item as Gallery1.Selected, if you set the Items using other formula, please replace it with your real Item formula in your Form.
