Update drop-down when button pushed

I've been searching this topic for hours but cannot find a specific use case that's working for me.

I have a PowerApps form that writes to a SharePoint list. There is a specific drop-down that writes to a choice column in the list. I want to maintain it as a drop-down, but under certain circumstances "automate" changing the value.

So the choice column (in SharePoint) is called "Status." The drop-down in PowerApps is called "Status_Combo."

The choice column has three choices: New, In process and Resolved. I already have the DefaultSelectedItems as New so that on creation of a new entry it populates it with that selection. Everything is working fine up to this point.

What I want to add is a pushbutton that, when pressed, does several things (such as incrementing the number in another column), but I also want it to look at the choice column and IF the current value is "New" change it to "In process." I already have the increment part working, but I've tried various combinations of the Patch function for the choice column, but I never see the value update.

It is part of the form. The form itself is very basic, one screen, and writes to one list. It also receives some data from a second list for a few different dropdowns, but those are working correctly and are not related to or affected by this dropdown I am asking about.

So when you create an entry after submitting the form at that time the form is in new mode. After submitting the form is also in new mode but you could not see data as the form mode is new to see data you can add a gallery and set its items property to the list then add a label inside gallery and set its Text property to ThisItem.Status.Value then you can see the data in the label that you see in the SharePoint list Status column

In the OnSuccess property of the form: ViewForm(Self) and put a icon on the screen outside the form "<" with OnSelect as Back() so you can return to the gallery.  If there is a Back() function in the OnSuccess property of the form, delete it.

So I was in the process of typing a lengthy response when I noticed that opening existing test entries in edit mode that NONE of the values came through. One that has data in all fields opens like a brand-new entry, defaults where they are specified, blank for fields with no default specified.

Something went wrong. This was working fine for weeks, but I don't know what "broke."

If you are opening the test entries in edit mode in a form then you need set the items property to the 

LookUp(SharePoint List, ID = Test entry's ID)

Then after that you can see the data in the form. To see the data for other entries you can take a gallery and add an icon to its template and Onselect of icon create a variable like Set(varItem, ThisItem)

Then in the above code you can replace the test entry's ID to the variable like varItem.ID and you will see the details of the entry in the form that you select from the gallery.

Make sure the DefaultSelectedItems of the DataCard should be Parent.Default

Unfortunately, that is how it was.

You are using SharePointIntegration object if you use the above code that you provide then it will only get the first entry . If your list contains more entries then you can set a variable in onview property as

Set(varItemID, LookUp (SharePoint List, ID = SharepointIntegration.SelectedItemID )

And then use that variable in the item property like LookUp( ID = varItemID)

Note that the SharePoint Integration object is used to customize a SharePoint Form but if you want to  see data in powerapps then you need to add a form control from power apps studio then add list to its then you can create edit view records based on my previous replies.

HI. Sorry for the delay but I had other things come up, but now I am back to this and still have not been successful getting it to work.

So I cleared the SharePoint integration rule on my button because I was having no success.  I cannot use the DefaultSelectedItems for this because that uses this rule:

If(IsBlank(Parent.Default), LookUp(Choices('Support'.Status),Value="New"), Parent.Default )

This ensures that if the form is new (and that dropdown is blank) it will auto populate with New, but if the form is an existing one and I am editing it will read the existing value. The problem is getting it to change to one of its values on a button push. I've tried suggestions here but I think I am doing something wrong because it's not working.
