I am trying to create an edit screen where a user has the ability to edit an individual record of a Collection prior to Patching the entire Collection to the Common Data Service.
For some reason, the Update field of my DataCards is not showing in the EditForm properties. Because of this, I am unable to get the SubmitForm() function to work. I have successfully accomplished creatign an edit screen in the past, and the only difference seems to be the lack of Update fields on my DataCards:
Has anyone run into this? I thought it may be a new update from Microsoft that removed the Update field, but I can't find any documentation.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Solved! Go to Solution.
The Patch function is the way to accomplish it. There should be better documentation for this.
Here is what I did:
Instead of using SubmitForm() when the Submit Icon is clicked I used Patch
Patch(LocalCollection,ThisItem,{
Column1: Dropdown.Selected.Value,
Column2: Dropdown1.Selected.Value});
Back()
This should update the item with the Dropdown values within the Data Card.
Let me know if that make sense!
Hi @Anonymous,
I think the issue here should be caused by the data source. Editform Data source should be a connected data source, which can't be set with a collection.
But there is no corresponding information mentioned in the document:
Edit form and Display form controls in PowerApps
I just the following, which makes the Update property showed with the collection data source.
First, specifythe connected data source. Then unhide the corresponding column under Form Options,
After that, change the data source with the collection, which would keep the corresponding columns.
This should be a little trick, which might cause data loss.
I will collect this as a content feedbak.

Hi @Anonymous,
Yes, we could take use of the patch function:

@v-micsh-msft, can you please elaborate on this solution. I have the same exact problem and it's been frustrating me to no end. But I can't seem to reproduce the steps you outlined in a meaningful way.
More background: I had PowerApps create an app for me from a Google Sheet. One of the columns in my sheet is a date, so I added a date picker input to the default edit form and hid the default "date" card (I also deleted the text from the DataField to prevent interference). As @Anonymous stated, there is no Update field! I'm fairly certain I'm connected to the data source. Any help would be a great relief.

What about changes in a Text Input control? I do not see the 'Update' property on the Datacard in the Advanced tab either.
All I'm doing is edit the data then click the check mark or SubmitForm(EditForm1) but I notice too that there is no
Update property and so my update on the data is not working. How can I add that property? Thanks for your help.
The Patch function should not be necessary when using DataCards. The functionality of Patch is already built-in.
I too have an issue where some of my cards have no Update property and some do. I have seen zero documentation as to why this should be the case when the forms are connected directly to CDS entities and all the cards are unlocked.
Really???? This is the official answer?
Do we need to use a workaround to something so simple as saving a record?
I met the same situation after adding a new field to an existing form. I haven't found any way to add the column to the form so, as it was required, I can't save new records.
I expected something better from Microsoft. They promised that using PowerApps should be very easy.
You can add new fields to an existing form!
-Click on the form (easiest using the left menu)
-When the right menu comes up, under the Properties section click "Edit fields"
-Click "Add field"
-Then you should be able to drag and rearrange the cards if you want
As far as the original point goes, I've also found that calculated fields will not show the updated property; even if there is nothing in the calculation. You would have to delete the field and add it again as a non-calculated field to fix it.
