Update variables on visible

Hello,

On a PowerApps form, I use 2 variables : isCreator and isSupport, which are initialized in the OnVisible of my form :

UpdateContext({isSupport: LookUp('User group'; Email = User().Email; Group).Value = "Support"; isCreator: IsMatch(SharePointIntegration.Selected.'Created By'.Email; User().Email; IgnoreCase)})

When I open a first item, the variables values are corrects. But when I edit another item, the values are not updated, causing issues. I have to refresh the page or naviguate to an another screen and back to the main screen to fix this issue.

How can I update my variables everytime I open an item ?

Thanks.

Try the following:

1. Place a Button (name: btnCheckSupport) and set Visible property to false

2. Cut & Paste the code written Form onVisible to Button onSelect

3. on Form onVisible write the code - Select(btnCheckSupport)

Call Select(btnCheckSupport) else where in your form based on the operation/requirement.  This would update the context as required.

Thanks.

What @Anonymous is hinting at is that your code isn't running when you switch items.  Since you reference the OnVisible event and that doesn't exist for Forms (but it does for Screens), I'm assuming you are mixing the terms.  However, that leads to potentially another issue which could be variable Scope.

If you're firing this during the OnVisible event for the Screen then it only runs for that Screen and is only populated/stored for that Screen (you're using local variables via UpdateContext() vs. global variables via Set()).   If you navigate away from that Screen, then those variables are no longer populated.  If you navigate back, then the OnVisible runs again and the variables are again populated.

Hi @Anonymous

Could you please reference @jhall's  and @Anonymous 's suggestion?

The required fields are essentially texts fields.

I tried to add Select(btnCheckSupport) in the OnSelect trigger on every fields and it's working, but it will be weird for the users to click on a field, and see fields disappears, appears, changing from Edit mode to View Mode...

And if a field is on View mode, the user can't select the field, and the display mode can't be changed to Edit mode. He needs to click on an another field in Edit mode to refresh the variables.

I will use this as a temporary solution.

This problem is still open.

I saw this post which is pretty similar : https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/General-Discussion/OnVisible-Not-Firing/td-p/62932

But none of the 2 solutions are working.

Can you explain your Form better?  Are you showing a single Form and then doing Visible/Invisible to Cards within the Form?  Like they fill out X fields and then you hide the prior fields and show new fields all on the same screen?

Or are you filling out fields on a Form on one page, Saving/Navigating to another page, then Loading/Shoing another Form for the same record but different fields?

I think the issue is that we're unclear on what your form looks like so are not 100% certain on what to suggest.  Maybe a screen shot or two?

Worth noting, if you're relying on the OnSelect() for a Text Input field (in a form or otherwise), the OnSelect event does not fire if you Tab/Alt-Tab into a field.  It only fires on a touch/click.  So if your users are using a desktop PC vs. a phone/tablet, then the events can be missed.

I have only one screen and hereunder is the form based on a List called "Hiscore Authorization" :

Capture2.PNG

In the OnVisible, I declare my variables :

Capture.PNG

A example of their utilisations is on text field Title that change the display mode depending of the value of 'Workflow flag' (I don't know why he has been changed to Workflow_x0020_Flag) and the variable isCreator :

Capture3.PNG

If I edit an Item where I am the creator (so isCreator = true), I can write in the field :

Capture6.PNG

But if I edit an other Item where I am not the creator, I can still change his value :

Capture7.PNG

Now, If I refresh the page and open the same Item, I can't change his value (isCreator = false):

Capture4.PNG

But I can't change my item too :

Capture5.PNG

Any questions ?

First off, the renaming of the field to be Workflow_x0020_Flag is normal.  It just does that when you have spaces.  What will be especially annoying is if you have a super long name that is similar and only different at the end.  Then PowerApps does this as well as truncating and iterating a number at the end.

EDIT: I just removed the rest as it is irrelevant.  I see now how you created this and what you're doing.  OnVisible is running.
