Use LookUp column (multiple choice) to filter a gallery

I would like to filter a gallery based on a look up column(allows multiple values) and a form field.

List A has Subsystems in a column called 'Component'.

List B has Functions which can be assigned to multiple Subsytems in a look up field called 'Subsytems'.

In PowerApps I have a form for List A and I have a gallery for List B. I want to filter gallery based on the datacard value for the component.

What is the best way to solve the compatibility issues in the comparison?

Hi @Picofarad ,

So, I have a List 4 with classes:

vjefferni_0-1680506657890.png

and List 5 with students multiple LookUps:

vjefferni_1-1680506713955.png

In PowerApps, main Gallery with list4 as data source:

vjefferni_3-1680507488685.png

child Gallery filter list5 compared to list4 selected item:

vjefferni_2-1680507478081.png

Formula:

Filter(list5,Title in Filter(list5,Gallery7.Selected.Title in classes.Value).Title)

Please adjust the formula with your own controls and list/column names.

Hi @Picofarad ,

Actually, I find out that the formula is too complicated, the short version will make it work faster:

Filter(list5,Gallery7.Selected.Title in classes.Value)

To filter a gallery based on a lookup column that allows multiple values, you can use the Filter function along with the In operator. Here's an example formula that you can use:

Filter('List B', In(Component, DataCardValue1.SelectedItems.Value) && IsBlank(DataCardValue2.Text) || StartsWith(Function, DataCardValue2.Text))

In this formula, DataCardValue1 represents the data card for the lookup column in List A, and DataCardValue2 represents the data card for the search field. SelectedItems.Value returns an array of selected items in the lookup column, so In(Component, DataCardValue1.SelectedItems.Value) checks if the Component value is in the selected items. The IsBlank(DataCardValue2.Text) check ensures that the search field is not empty, and StartsWith(Function, DataCardValue2.Text) checks if the Function value starts with the text entered in the search field.

As for the compatibility issues in the comparison, make sure that the data types of the values being compared are the same. For example, if the Component column is a choice column, the value in the lookup column should also be a choice. If the Function column is a text column, the value in the search field should also be a text. If the data types are not the same, you may need to convert one of the values using a function like Value() or Text().

@Varun8492 Thanks for this but I do not have a search field?

Picofarad_0-1680372290138.png

This is how the bottom gallery looks when the Items is just List B but I need it to be filtered based on the applicable items based on the selected Subsystem. The form has for Item property: gal1.Selected where gal 1 is the gallery on the left

List B is as follows:

Picofarad_1-1680372527437.png

List A:

Picofarad_2-1680372591539.png

Or maybe I am doing it all wrong.

Maybe try this, To filter a gallery in PowerApps based on a lookup column and a form field, you can use the Filter function with the in operator to check if the selected subsystem is in the list of subsystems for each item in the gallery.

Here's an example formula you could use as the Items property of your gallery:

Varun8492_0-1680437894594.png

This formula filters the items in ListB based on whether the selected Component from the form is in the list of Subsystems for each item in the gallery. The IsBlank function checks if a component has been selected, and the InStr function with the Text function converts the values to text to compare them.

You can adjust the formula based on the specific names of your list columns and data card value. The key is to use the in operator with the InStr function to check if the selected component is in the list of subsystems for each item in the gallery.

I hope this helps!

The Component in the Form is of type Single line of Text so I used the .Text option but anyway it did not work.
