User specific view of gallery in PowerApps working for me, but not others.

Hi, I am having a problem with the gallery in my PowerApp.

The gallery has a connection to a SharePoint list which contains the 'training requests'.

I am trying to get the gallery to only show the user requests that they have been assigned. It also filters out the requests that have already been "Completed"

what I currently have done:

App OnStart     =       Set(varUserEmail, User().Email);

On the gallery Items    =      Filter('My Training', 'Assigned to'.Email=varUserEmail, Confirm, !("Completed" in Confirm)
)

The problem I am having is that it works for me, but when I try on someone elses account, the gallery comes up blank.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks!

Perhaps a workaround would be to change the txtTestUserEmail input to be = to the varUserEmail?

Yep. Pay very close attention to spaces, formatting or something that is getting in the way, but you should have the tools to get to the bottom of it now.

Try debugging by putting a text control somewhere and have it show varUserEmail to see what's going on. Gut feel is that the User Principle Name isn't what you're expecting.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I have tried this; it appears to work as intended. for example, if I open the app, it with show Tom@outlook.com for me in the text field. Then when my colleague opens the app it will show Bob.@outlook.com for him.

Is it possible that you are already filtering the result from the connection to SharePoint? If you remove the filter statement do you actually see all the sharepoint items in the gallery?

Yes, If I remove the filter I see all the items from SharePoint in the gallery, (including ones not assigned to me).

With the filter it works as intended for me, however others cannot see any items, and it doesn't work for them.

If I remove the filter it does show all the items for other users as well.

Still feels like there's something funky going on with the UPN. Are you able to just use an editable textbox for UerEmail input and manually set it to another member's email? Can you see their filtered results or see nothing like what was happening to them?

Similarly can the other user manually set the textbox input to your email and they get to see your filtered list, or do they see a blank search?

The results either way should narrow down where the issue lies.

Hmm,

I'm not exactly sure how you filter from another textbox, but I have tried to put a filter like this on the gallery itself. (no results show up)

If you provide the code, I can try what you suggested.

cheers

Try this:

  1. Place a text input control somewhere visible
  2. Rename it txtTestUserEmail
  3. Set the filter to:

Filter('My Training','Assigned to'.Email = txtTestUserEmail.Text)

  • Type into the text input control various email addresses (such as tom@...)

Rather than using the variable that is getting the data from UserEmail(), you're using an input control to manually control exactly what will be filtered.  This is obviously just to assist debugging, but should give an indication of whether it is the email itself or the return values of UserEmail() that is different to assumptions.

Ok just tried this, and it looks to be filtering the gallery items correctly based on the email entered.

I also tried with a colleague, and it works for him too.

So, it does appear to work with a manually entered email. I also created a text label to show varUserEmail. and when my colleague opens the app it does show his email. So I'm not sure what's going on here.

I really appreciate the help, thanks
