Using Collect to feed sharepoint list

I have a "Drop Down" Control which I would like to submit to a Sharepoint List "New Hire Form", however, the sytax below doesn't seem to work.

Collect('New Hire Form',{Employment:Dropdown1_1.Selected.Value})

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi @dmarin

I am sure that if it works through a form then you can reproduce the functionality outside a form.

I have not experimented, but the solution will be the same as for this:

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/PowerApps-Forum/Solved-patching-to-SharePoint-choice-and-lookup-...

Except that the odata string will be different and you will need to supply different fields.  You can get the constant and the different fields by dissecting an existing person in an existing list.

However, I have switched to identifying my users by their Office365 ID, which is very robust.  In SharePoint I save the ID as a string.  You cannot then display the person name in SharePoint directly.  What you can do is create a list of your users and have the ID column and then have a lookup to the Office365 ID.

Hello @Meneghino

I am still stuck. I need assitance pulling the info first.

For example, how can I create a list that lists all Sharepoint users ?

Hi @dmarin

Just to confirm, are you sure you need to write to a SharePoint person type column?  If that is the case, (i.e. you cannot substitute with a text column) then the only way can see is to create a list of all the people manually.  Of course this is practical only in case of a limited number of fairly static users.

If you can substitute with a text column, then I suggest using the Office365 Id as identifier, much easier.

How can I use the O365 identifier ?

I want users to be able to lookup all users.

Thanks

Hi @dmarin

All information is here

Please notice my comment after the article on using the Id.

You can save the Id in a simple text column.

Please let me know how you get on.

Hello @Meneghino

Wondering if you could help me with the following.

I need to allow power app users to pick from a specific list of Users. But I want to Display their name and later use sharepoint flows to send these uses an e-mail.

I tried using the Form but it pulls all the users and doesn't honor the Column option to only lookup users from a group.

worst case scenario, I'll have to create a drop down based on email addresses.

any ideas ?

Hi @dmarin

What you ask for seems doable.  As mentioned in many other posts, I personally avoid forms.

If you could be more specific in your requirement, I could give you more relevant advice.

Regards.

@Meneghino

I need to submit an 1 out of 10 avilable e-mail address to a sharepoint list from a dropdown, but I want the drop down to display the Names, not the emai.

For example.

From Dropdown, pick

James Smith  or  Joe Clark.

If they pick James Smith, when submitting the form, it should submit jsmith@email.com to the Sharepoint List.

Let me know if this makes sense.

Hi @dmarin

Once again, I am not sure about forms since I do not use them*, but here is what you can do without form.

Assume that your EmailList data source (could be a local collection or SP list etc.) has at least two columns: UserName and UserEmail.  Also assume that your SharePoint list (MySPlist) has at least a column called MyEmail, then:

1) Create a drop down control (DropDown1) in your screen and set its Items property to EmailList

2) In the Advanced property pane on the right choose "UserName" as the Value option (see screenshot below)

3) Create a button control on your screen and set its OnSelect property to something like this:

Patch(MySPlist, Defaults(MYSPList), {MyEmail: DropDown1.Selected.UserEmail})

Now, pressing the button will create a new record in MySPlist.

* I may start to use them now that the multi-column layout is available

@Meneghino, Thanks, I'll give this a try.

Would the source Sharepoint Column's type be "Text".
