Using Filters in Forms

Hello,

I am new to PowerApps and would like to be able to assign a condition to a station on an input panel in a form (For example: Mill is working or Mill is damaged) . This information should then be stored in a sharepoint list. This is what I did:

The possible conditions are stored in a sharepoint list - let's call it list1.

The possible stations are stored in a second sharepoint list - let's call it list 2.

The results of the form are stored in a third sharepoint list - list 3.

Since the number of possible stations is so large and therefore the functionality of the form is limited, the stations have been divided into 3 categories. This information is also included in list 2.This way, the user can first select a category and only those stations that belong to this category will be displayed in the form. Then the user selects the appropriate condition.

I have solved this as follows:

First there is a dropdown field in which the category can be selected.

Here I use Items=Distinct(List2; Category)

The first field in the form where the station is selected I programmed as follows:

Items = Filter(List2, Category = Dropdown1.Selected.Value).Title

This accordingly gives me only the stations to choose from that correspond to the previously selected category.

However, there is a problem that arises: when saving the form, the selected value of the station is not transferred to the sharepoint list.

How can I solve it that I can filter and still the results of the form are transferred correctly to Sharepoint?

Thanks for helping!

Hi @JosefineKeiber ,

Can you please share what the data type of the Station column in List2 is and the Update property of the Station datacard?

Hi @BCBuizer,

the data type of Station in List2 is "One line of text". I have to look up what you mean with the second question. I'll answer in a minute.

If I understand your question my update property if you select Station in my form is the one showd in the picture. So: Update=DataCardValue14.Selected

Maybe the second picture helps aswell.

Hi @JosefineKeiber ,

Thanks for the responses.

The Update property defines what gets save to the data source, in this case a record (as returned by DataCardValue14.Selected). Since the column type in Single Line of Text, the data types are not compatible. To fix this, select the column in the record that has the text value you wish to save, for instance:

DataCardValue14.Selected.Title

Hi @BCBuizer ,

thanks for ur good and quick response. I get that point with the different data types - that makes sense. Now i tried you solution. I used the title of the column of the original list, list2, that contains the name of the station. But it gives me an error. I also tried it with the title of the colum in the list that it is saved in, list3. It still says I have an error.

But I maybe identified the source of the problem: in list 3 where teh results are saved the data type of the "Station" is lookup because oit refers to list2. Can you still fix this problem if the datatype is lookup? Or is it impossible then?

Hi @JosefineKeiber ,

Assuming the form is connected to List3, can you try to make the below changes:

DataCardValue14.Items = Filter(List2, Category = Dropdown1.Selected.Value)

Station_DataCard4.Update = {Value: DatacardValue14.Selected.Title}

Title may have to be changed to the name of the column in List2 that has the name of the station you wish to select.

Hi @BCBuizer ,

i made the suggested changes and also changed the name of the column in List2 to the correct one. It now doesn't give me an error in Power Apps anymore, but it still doesn't save the save the value (the title of the station) in list3.

And yes, your assumption is right, the form is connected to list3.

Hi @JosefineKeiber

Then let's try another way by setting the Station_DataCard4.Update property to:

LookUp(
   Choices(List3.Station),
   Value = DataCardValue14.Selected.Title
)

In this you may need to replace Station with the name of the column you are trying to populate.
