Using show columns and rows with blank values excluded

Hi there,

I have been unable to find any documentation on this – so I am not sure if show columns is acting correctly (and I was hoping for something different) or if this is a glitch.

I have a collection with say 13 columns and it is called AAA.

Collection AAA

WB_1_0-1685752510564.png

I am creating a new collection where I use the show columns function to only show the columns “Good Taste” and the column “Cheap”.

ClearCollect(BBB, ShowColumns( AAA, "Good Taste", “Cheap” ))

 The result coming from the above - I am only getting the rows that have a value in both of these columns and the rows with have a blank value in are not being included in the new collection.

Collection BBB.

WB_1_1-1685752510566.png

What I was expecting was getting all of the rows across (like below)

WB_1_2-1685752510566.png

Does show columns only bring across rows that have a value in both columns that are being brought across and exclude rows with a blank value in the specified column.

Thanks in advance.

Good day @WB_1,

Just to confirm, how are you checking the columns and data in these collections? I assume this is using the new collection and variable viewer in the studio? Although the new collection and variable viewer looks amazing, there is unfortunately a bug that means that the data that it displays isn't always correct, especially if you make changes to the formulas that output the variables and collections in the studio session.

Please try to save your app and reopen it in the studio, and see if the correct columns and data is shown.

Please let me know of the outcome of this test.

Have a great day!

Hello @WB_1

I have simulated your case and got this output. Unfortunately, it's not the same as yours. You might want to review back the source and filters possibly filters as your case is not the expected output for columns.

This is my AAA:

ClearCollect(AAA,
    {Fruit:"Banana", 'Good Taste':1, Healthy: 1},
    {Fruit:"Apple", 'Good Taste':1,  Cheap: 1,  Healthy: 1},
    {Fruit:"Peach", 'Good Taste':1, Healthy: 1},
    {Fruit:"Lemon", 'Cheap':1, Healthy: 1},
    {Fruit:"Orange", 'Good Taste':1, Cheap: 1, Healthy: 1}
)

This is the AAA Collection Output

cha_cha_2-1685755104807.png

I also did another version of AAA where it says Blank() explicitly and it gives the same output as above.

ClearCollect(AAA,
    {Fruit:"Banana", 'Good Taste':1,Cheap: Blank(), Healthy: 1},
    {Fruit:"Apple", 'Good Taste':1,  Cheap: 1,  Healthy: 1},
    {Fruit:"Peach", 'Good Taste':1,Cheap: Blank(),  Healthy: 1},
    {Fruit:"Lemon",  'Good Taste':Blank(), Cheap:1, Healthy: 1},
    {Fruit:"Orange", 'Good Taste':1, Cheap: 1, Healthy: 1}
)

This is the output for BBB

ClearCollect(BBB, ShowColumns( AAA, "Good Taste", "Cheap" ))

cha_cha_1-1685755010268.png

I tried adding CCC to match your output:

ClearCollect(CCC, ShowColumns( AAA,"Fruit", "Good Taste", "Cheap" ))
