Video control not working for all users

Hi PowerApps Community,

I've created an app to play videos from a SharePoint library. The app works for 95% of my users but the content will not load for the other 5%. I've check all the permissions on SharePoint, cleared the users cache, ensured the browsers don't have anything blocking the playback of videos and have tried almost every solution posted here on the forum.

Another thing to note, the Power App works for me in Edge but I cannot get the control to work in Chrome. The app does work for other users in Chrome which makes me think its a user issue not a browser problem.

I am at a loss as to how to fix this. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? Is this a bug with the video control or some thing that could be fixed? If I can't solve it soon we have to abandon Power Apps for this project because we can not have a solution that only works for some of our users. Very disappointed with Microsoft on this.

Below is just an example of all the different ways I have tried to set Media for the video control:

//LookUp(myCol,ID = videoVar).'Link to item'
//Text(LookUp(myCol, ID = videoVar).'Link to item')
//videoContent
//LookUp('SharepointLib',ID =videoVar).'Link to item'
//Concatenate("https://sharepoint.com/sites/nameOfSPSite/", LookUp('SharepointLib',ID =videoVar).'Full Path',"?rel=0")
//First(Split(Text(LookUp('SharepointLib',ID =videoVar).'Link to item'),"?")).Value
//videoMedia
//Label3.Text
//First(Filter(myCol,videoVar = ID )).'Link to item'
//Concatenate("https://sharepoint.com/sites/nameOfSPSite/", LookUp('SharepointLib',ID =videoVar).'Full Path',"?rel=0");

//Concatenate(First(Split(Text(Concatenate("https://sharepoint.com/sites/nameOfSPSite/", LookUp('SharepointLib',ID =videoVar).'Full Path')),".mp4")).Value,".mp4")

Hello,

Firstly, it’s important to note that Chrome has certain restrictions on autoplaying videos, which could be affecting your app

If your videos have sound, Chrome requires a user gesture to start playing the video. However, if the videos are muted, they should autoplay without issues.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Browser Settings: Ensure that Chrome’s autoplay policies are not blocking the videos. Users can adjust these settings by navigating to chrome://flags/#autoplay-policy in their Chrome browser.

Video Control Properties: Check the properties of the video control in Power Apps. Make sure the AutoStart property is set to true, and consider using a timer control to trigger the video play

Direct Video Access: Verify if the affected users can access and play the videos directly from the SharePoint link outside of the Power App. This can help determine if the issue is with the app or with the video access permissions.

Media Property: Instead of using .AbsoluteUri, try using .Value for the Media property of the video control as it has been reported to resolve similar issues

App OnStart: Set a variable at the start of the app to control the video play. For example, use Set(varStart, false) on the OnStart of the app control, and then Set(varStart, true) on the OnVisible of the screen where the video is supposed to play

Gallery and Video Player: If you’re using a gallery to display videos, ensure that the gallery’s Items property is correctly filtering the SharePoint library, and the video player’s Media property is set to ThisItem.'Link to item'

Thanks for your response! However, I have tried all of these solutions and have not had success. Please see my responses to your solutions in blue below.

  • Autoplay:
    • AutoStart is set to False. Additionally, I am using a timer to display a loading view for 5 seconds in an effort to give the video a chance to load.

    • Chrome works for some of the users, not all. This leads me to believe it is an issue for users not with a browser
  • Direct Video Access:
    • I've confirmed the users have direct access to the videos, I've also tested out a YouTube video for this very reason.

  • Media Property:
    • I have tried setting this media control almost every way imaginable, from using the .Value to hardcoding pieces of the URL. I have read through almost all the post that have suggested these methods and nothing has worked.
      • I even used Power Automate to provide the URL to no avail.
      • I tried to use Power Automate to get the media content however since the video file is large this is not a viable solution.

To re-summarize my issues:

  1. Video control does not work for users who have access to the video in any browser
  2. Video control works for some users in certain browsers but not other browsers
  3. Video control works for most users in all browsers
