View last submitted item after submit without changing Item property

Hello,

I have an EditForm control in my app of which the 'Item' property is set to galTopics.Selected - this is a gallery listing of 'Topics' from a prior screen. When I use the 'New Topic' button, once filled out and submitted (using the save button), I wish this last submitted item to display. I just can't figure out if this is possible as cannot change the current Item property.

Is there a way around this?

Hi @sudosaurus you can try doing this:

In Power Apps, when you have an EditForm control with the Item property set to galTopics.Selected, it means that the form is bound to the selected item in the "galTopics" gallery. Changing the Item property to a new item that hasn't been selected in the gallery is not straightforward. However, there is a workaround you can use to achieve your goal of displaying the last submitted item in the EditForm after clicking the "New Topic" button.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

Create a Collection to Store the Last Submitted Item: You can use a collection to temporarily store the last submitted item. You'll update this collection each time a new topic is submitted.

ClearCollect(LastSubmittedTopic, YourFormName.LastSubmit)

Replace "YourFormName" with the actual name of your EditForm control.

Modify the Item Property of the EditForm: Instead of directly binding the EditForm to the selected item in the gallery, you'll use the LastSubmittedTopic collection as the Item property when you want to display the last submitted item. Set the EditForm's Item property like this:

If(IsEmpty(LastSubmittedTopic), galTopics.Selected, LastSubmittedTopic)

This formula checks if the LastSubmittedTopic collection is empty. If it is empty, it displays the selected item from the gallery ("galTopics.Selected"). Otherwise, it displays the last submitted item from the collection.

After Submitting a New Topic: When a new topic is submitted using the "Save" button, update the LastSubmittedTopic collection with the newly submitted item. You can do this in the OnSelect property of the "Save" button:

SubmitForm(YourFormName)
ClearCollect(LastSubmittedTopic, YourFormName.LastSubmit)

This code submits the form, and then it clears the LastSubmittedTopic collection and populates it with the last submitted item using the LastSubmit property of the form.

With this approach, your EditForm will display the last submitted item when the LastSubmittedTopic collection is not empty (after a new topic is submitted) and the selected item from the gallery when the collection is empty (initially or if no new topics have been submitted). This way, you achieve the behaviour you described.

Where do I use the first bit?

 I have configured the other two bits of fx on the Item and OnSelect properties as required.

So the Save button is set to this and that all l looks OK now:

However the form item is looking like this - even if an item is not yet created in the collection, I cannot select a topic from the previous page currently due to this error:

If(IsBlank(lastSubmitedTopic),galTopic.selected,First(lastSubmitedTopic))

as you are supplying a table not a record
