Want to chose persons from Office365Users based on their title

I have a canvas app connected to a SPO list and Office365Users for data sources. I have a form set to new form mode.

As one of the fields in the form i want to be able to assign a user to a task based on their title and their availability. Is this even possible? I was thinking to add a combo box connected to Office365Users and filter it for a job title and their availability, but I can't seem to make it work. Any suggestions?

Office365Users.SearchUser({searchTerm: Trim(AssignedUserComboBox.Text), top: 15})

That's what i'm trying to use atm. But when you start the app and select the drop down for the combo box, it will only list the city. I can't even change this to another field. I've tried editing the advance features of the combo box and tried changing the display fields and search fields but nothing actually changes.

Can you chose what field is shown and searched in the formula above? I haven't been able to find enough info to help me figure this out on my own. If you know of some place to look i would appreciate that info as well.

Thanks for any help.

Hi @Sean-PA2Rescue ,

Since the result's structure that Office365Users.SearchUser returns is different from the data's structure that person field needs, so you need some special formula to update, no directly using combobox.selecteditems.

Try to set like this:
the combo box's Items:

Office365Users.SearchUser({searchTerm: Trim(AssignedUserComboBox.SearchText), top: 15})

the combo box's DefaultSelectedItems:

Office365Users.SearchUser({searchTerm: Trim(ThisItem.TAssignedTo.Email), top: 15})

this datacard's Update:

{'@odata.type':"#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedUser",
        Claims:"i:0#.f|membership|"&AssignedUserComboBox.Selected.Mail,
    Department:"",
   DisplayName:AssignedUserComboBox.Selected.DisplayName,
         Email:AssignedUserComboBox.Selected.Mail,
      JobTitle:"",
       Picture:""
   }

Hi,

Setup the field in SharePoint and in the name and type area select " Person or Group" and then call that field in powerapps and should be a drop down to select.

Hi @Sean-PA2Rescue ,

Do you want to display job title in a combo box for Office365Users.SearchUser?

Could you tell me

1)what is AssignedUserComboBox?

2)what does this formula use for: Office365Users.SearchUser({searchTerm: Trim(AssignedUserComboBox.Text), top: 15})?

I assume that

1)it is a textinput.

2)use this formula to search user based on text in the textinput.

Please notice one thing:

Office365Users.SearchUser function could only search based on display name, given name, surname, mail, mail nickname and user principal name. Job Title is not included.

If you want to display job title in a combo box for Office365Users.SearchUser, you just need to set the combo box's primary text to Job Title. If you want the combo box search based on Job Title, you just need to set the combo box's search text to Job Title.

Please notice that Office365Users.SearchUser function could return these fields, you could only display these fields:

Name Path Type Description
User id
Id string

A unique identifier for the user object in the directory.

Account enabled?
AccountEnabled boolean

true if the account is enabled; otherwise, false. This property is required when a user is created.

Business phones
BusinessPhones array of string

A list of business phone numbers for the user

The city in which the user is located.

The country/region in which the user is located; for example, "US" or "UK".

Department
Department string

The name of the department in which the user works.

Display name
DisplayName string

The name displayed in the address book for the user. This is usually the combination of the user's first name, middle initial and last name. This property is required when a user is created and it cannot be cleared during updates.

Given name
GivenName string

The given name (first name) of the user.

Job title
JobTitle string

The user’s job title.

Email
Mail string

The SMTP/email address for the user, for example, "jeff@contoso.onmicrosoft.com". Read-Only.

Nickname
MailNickname string

The mail alias for the user. This property must be specified when a user is created.

Office location
OfficeLocation string

The office location in the user's place of business.

Postal code
PostalCode string

The postal code for the user's postal address. The postal code is specific to the user's country/region. In the United States of America, this attribute contains the ZIP code.

Surname
Surname string

The user's surname (family name or last name).

Telephone number
TelephoneNumber string

The primary cellular telephone number for the user.

User Principal Name (UPN)
UserPrincipalName string

The user principal name (UPN) of the user. The UPN is an Internet-style login name for the user based on the Internet standard RFC 822. By convention, this should map to the user’s email name. The general format is alias@domain, where domain must be present in the tenant’s collection of verified domains.

What's more, please notice that:

You need to set the user's Job Title in azure profile. Or else, you will see blank value in the combo box.

Hi Jay,

I've been working on this a couple days now. After your reply, I added another column in the SPO list like you suggested above.

SPO-TTAssignedToOptions.png

When I edited the PA and added the new field to the edit form, the combo box that was added by PA automatically doesn't show the list of users for the company. The combobox IsSearchable option is set to true, so you can search the the company users by their name but that is all. The ITEMS option for the combobox are:

Choices([@'TT'].TAssignedTo)

When you play the app, and click on the down arrow for the combobox, it only lets you search, there is never a list to choose from. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to add something to the ITEMS option? I tried adding Choices([@'TT'].TAssignedTo).DisplayName to it and while I didn't get an error, it still had no affect as far as giving a list.

I have tried other ways to populate the combobox ITEMS option. For example: Office365Users.SearchUser({top:25}), Office365Users.SearchUserV2().value and while these do list the users in the company, it will not update the SPO list for this field when i save the form.

This is probably simple, but I've banged my head a lot on this and could use a little more guidance.

Thank you.

Here is a teams pointer if you connect now I will try to help you
