What is "Microsoft PowerApps Trial Plan 2"?

We have an E3 license. I now see PowerApps Trial Plan 2 in the admin center and several users have been assigned this license.

None of our staff assigned them to a trial.

I have had terrible experiences with these trial licenses.

What is it? Can I safely get rid of this license from our users?

We currently have very few PowerApps created.

Hi @Anonymous,

I just tested and I got the same result. I have one user with Office365 E5 plan. In Office365 Admin center, before he only had this O365 E5 plan license. Then in https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/#, he login from "Get started free".

And then it says

After this user signed in successfully, I go to admin center and see that a PowerApps Trial Plan 2 license is assigned to him automatically already.

In https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/administrator/signup-question-and-answer, you could see that:

Users within your Office365 organization can gain access to PowerApps in three different ways:

  • They can individually sign up for a PowerApps Plan 2 trial as outlined in the How do users sign up for PowerApps? section.
  • You can assign a PowerApps license to them within the Office 365 admin portal.
  • The user has been assigned an Office 365 and Dynamics 365 plans that includes access to the PowerApps service. See the PowerApps pricing page for the list of Office 365 and Dynamics 365 plans that include PowerApps capabilities.

Users can try PowerApps Plan 2 for free for 90 days. Also, actullay you do not need to worry, as when the trial expires, users who have access to PowerApps or Microsoft Flow through Office 365 or Dynamics 365 can still access PowerApps or Microsoft Flow. However, those users will lose access to any features that are exclusive to Plan 2, as outlined on the PowerApps pricing page.

It's just odd at the number of people assigned the license. I don't believe, though I could be mistaken, that all those users went asked for a trial. We have a very low tech community.

We also have all of our users assigned PowerApps & Flow as part of the E3 package.

I appreciate your insight and suggestions. I will remove the trial and see if anyone is missing the Plan 2 features!

Thank you! eZe

The PowerApps Trial Plan 2 license circumvents app security for UserType "Guest" users.  Consider this scenario:

We allocate subcontractors an Office 365 Enterprise E3 license with only Exchange Online enabled. Subcontractors are granted access to content on an as-needed basis and are not considered employees. Subcontractor identities in Azure AD are assigned the "Guest" UserType.  Essentially, this is guest user state 4.

The subcontractor successfully authenticates to Office 365 by visiting https://portal.office.com and then visits https://web.powerapps.com by typing the URL into the browser's address bar. A PowerApps trial License is then automatically assigned outside of the Office 365 E3 license and the service is provisioned to give access to the subcontractor. The subcontractor is able to access the full feature set of a Plan 2 licensed user, which may contain internal data, effectively circumventing guest access controls which to my understanding currently does not allow guest access (https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Administering-PowerApps/Can-I-Share-a-PowerApp-with-Azure-AD-Gue...).

Plan 2 also enables limited access to Microsoft Flow.

Can you comment on this? How do you limit trial licenses to be allowed for only UserType "Members" and not "UserType "Guests"? This loophole also applies to the Stream trial license as well:

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-Stream-Ideas/Stream-trial-license-circumvents-Strea...

We added a premium connectors in one of our PowerApps and then deleted it. Since then the users who want to use the app are asked to Start a free Power Apps premium trial, mentioning that " This app uses features that come with a PowerApps premium plan. Start a trial to use these fearures."

We do not want to keep the app with the premium feature reason why we deleted it and we do not want that our users to start trials.

Considering that the premium features were deleted, we do not understand why we keep on receiving the warning.

Is there a way to verify what other features in our app are premium or why this warning message keeps on apprearing?

Many thanks.

Hi,

Did you ever get an answer to your problem? I seem to be having the same thing. I had a premium connector, but removed it, and it is still asking users to get a premium trial.

Thanks
