Will using custom connectors inside power apps require the users to have a premium license ?

I have developed a custom connector which integrate with a 3rd party system named "Paylocity". now the custom connector include passing the first characters of employee names and then get all the related employees.

Now i want to add a field inside our canvas app and a button to retrieve the related employee names. so the user type some characters >> click on get employee button >> and the system will show the employees which have their first name or last name starting with the entered characters.. 

but does using the custom connector inside power apps require premium license ? if so, then can I replace this with calling a flow from the canvas, where the flow uses HTTP requests actions to query the 3rd party system and define the Run-Only user for the flow to be a service account which have a premium license? will this work? so only the service account will need the premium license?

Yes, a custom connector triggers the need for premium licencing

My recommendation is to stay away from any setup that accesses a premium feature with a service account to bypass the need for individual users to have premium licences. Such a setup fits with the definition of multiplexing, which runs against the Microsoft licencing agreement.

Custom connectors count as premium connectors and require Power Apps premium license. So, they are Power Apps’ premium features. If you want to create one and use one, you, the user, must have Power Apps premium license assigned. 

All custom connectors require a premium per user licence for Power Apps.

@BCLS776 ok thanks for the info, so let say i did the following instead:-

1) using the service account and the custom connector >> i run a scheduled flow to populate a SharePoint list to sync the data from the 3rd party system.

2) then users from power app will be querying the SharePoint list instead of the 3rd part data..

will this consider a multiplexing as well?

If users are accessing the data in SharePoint list populated by a scheduled flow running under a service account and custom connector, it would indeed be considered multiplexing if the data in the SharePoint list originates from a third-party system and users are accessing it via Power Apps without having their own individual licenses for accessing the third-party system directly. 

Here's why: 

-Scheduled Flow: The scheduled flow running under a service account would be considered a single user accessing the third-party system's data indirectly. 

-Power Apps Users: Users accessing the SharePoint list through Power Apps would be considered indirect users if they are not licensed to access the third-party system directly. 

If the users who are querying the SharePoint list need to have access to the underlying third-party data, they should have appropriate licenses for accessing that data directly. Alternatively, if the data in the SharePoint list is transformed or abstracted in a way that it doesn't directly expose the third-party data, then it might not be considered multiplexing.
