hi. i have a powerapps form linking to a sharepoint site data source. how do i delete that data source and replace all instances of it with another sharepoint data source?
reason: i used a tutorial on this site and was able to export my powerapps form to another site. the new sharepoint site is exact mirror of the old site. the exported form carried over it's old datasource connection, just need to replace that part.
Solved! Go to Solution.
In the following sequence only to move a data source from one SharePoint list to another:
+New, SP List ‘From an Existing List’, select your original source and ensure the name stays the same.
In the App remove the data source – this generates a formula error but changes no forms.
Add the new data source and, provided the name is exactly the same, the formula errors resolve themselves.
Any other sequence results in PowerApps resolving conflicts such as identical names by appending an _1 to the DataSource name and does not remove the errors.
Changing the DataSource in each Form will result in all fields and formatting being removed. I at least copied my App before I discovered this result.
In Fact, i had same situation of 'Changing SharePoint list in PowerApps'.
I developed PoweApps using SharePoint List A and while deployment had to use new SharePoint List B so that i can leverage 'ID' column value starting from 1.
After changing to SharePoint List B, Pop Up asked to 'Reset Card' --> Opted No
And manually changed data source for the fields. 2 fields with Drop down (for People picker)were not working well. I deleted those 2 and added back.
Now, app is functional 🙂 I didn't loose formatting and readjusting the formulas. Saved lot of time 🙂
Hi @emmahiggy changing data source in PowerApps has become quite easy now.
Suppose you have initially created list name A.
Follow below steps :
1. Create a new SharePoint list using existing list e.g. List B (it will take just 2 minutes of time).
2. Now rename the older list with some suffix e.g. _oldList or _List1 ( List A_OldList)
3. Now rename the new list (List B) same as initial list (List A)
So, you just need to interchanged the name of list and that's it.
Now, go inside PowerApps and check any formula which takes list A name. Save and publish the app and now, it's connected with newly created list.
Let me know, if you need further help.
It worked. Thank you! The sharepoint lists in both environments were named exactly the same. In powerapps, deleted the datasource(s) and added the new env list. I had 2 lists that I repeated this process for, saved the app and reopened it as errors did not resolve initially. On opening the powerapps app in edit mode again, all issues were resolved. I had heavily customized forms and did not have any issues by this method.
If this is about being able to select different site/list (with same structure ofc) on a different environment, Environment variable that are bound to the data sources should be used. On each environment those variables should be set, no change in app itself.
Hello Mona,
How can I find the data source from this page?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Letitia
There is one way that does work without impacting the layout of the powerapp or any forms/pages etc. The main caveat is that this ONLY works when the new datasource has exactly the same name and fields/makeup as the old datasource. I have used this approach for changing an app from connecting to a test sharepoint site setup to a live sharepoint setup of all the same datasources.
I do recommend making a backup of the app before trying this as it does involve steps that can not be reversed if it fails at any point.
1) Ensure you have your new data sources ready with exactly the same names as the existing datasources and fields/setup.
2) Open your app and DELETE one of the data sources you need to change - make a note of which one you deleted.
3) Now add a datasource - and add the NEW version of the datasource you deleted. If the names are exctaly the same it should add a datasource named the same as the one you deleted. - e.g. i deleted "Jobs" and then readded a sharepoint list called "Jobs" and imported it with the new location.
4) Checked all references and pages but all should have auto linked and be happy like nothing even happened.
You can see how the file path is now updated by hovering over the new datasource to the new location - images of my repath below.
I already posted this 'resolution' on 03-10-2021 01:00 AM. This will work whenever you only have to do this once in a while for a handfull of tables, but whenever you have a DevOps environment containing 30 plus tables you want to drive a change of environment by a variable.
Since I have not developed a lot in the last year it might be solved now. Will test it soon, while I have to create an update of this solution.
