new look for Power Apps

We recently launched a preview of the new look for model driven app Power Apps. Details here.  As you try out the preview, please tell us what you think.  In the coming weeks we'll be talking more about how modern controls, using the Microsoft Fluent design system, will be coming to canvas apps, theming is also on the horizon (about time!).  We're keen to hear people's thoughts and feedback on all those topics here.

I found this discussion as I thought there was a bug around textfield control / inputs. I am glad to see that my similar thoughts have already been echoed above.

I completely agree that:

- it is very unclear what is editable

- people will raise support tickets because they don't understand something is read-only (no visual clue like before)

- greyed out background implies it isn't editable

- the extra spacing in subgrids (I now see a big "We didn't find anything to show here" message and large icon) does not work well and makes the overall UI look poorer

- the v9 fluent ui link posted is a significantly better implementation

While I am commenting about negative aspects, this is a massive improvement as others have said. Again echoing another poster, I will need to disable it for the time being because of the above notes.

• Allow you to generate a color over a text input control, as is currently done in Canvas App
• Vary the color of BPF depending on the stage, including a different color for the active stage.
• Be able to design color themes for forms and the different controls. Today we can only give the color to the header and vary a little the color of the links very limited. At this point something that many users have always asked for is the blue registration link. Let's see if it is possible to improve this point.
• Another very claimed aspect is the issue of graphics, and perhaps this point MSFT leaves it very late in the queue or does not get to address, because we know we have Power Bi, but to see an improvement in the issue of graphics would not be too much, we know that with XRMToolbox something we can do, but it is very limited
• Improve the access menu to tables, dahsboard, url, something I have noticed is that the native icons when we pass the cursor change to blue, but the non-native icons  do not change to blue color
• when the field is locked, it cannot be seen that it is locked

Hi Ben, I second this finding. I guess "Use available space" is not considered for subgrids anymore, maybe due to endless scrolling. This prevents us to use the new forms widely as a preview to users as we would need to change a lot of views.

I love the new design. But one issues i found is that when I click on a chart to filter the list, it's not working.  😕

Agree with the issues mentioned above, would like to add a minor one: 

In Related dropdown, long descriptions that need 2 rows get crammed into 1 row and overflow, partially covering labels of other items.

We have got a support ticket(2303230040005746) on this preview feature, here is the issue -

Issue - After this preview feature is enabled on a custom app, Fluent UI takes away our custom(black/anycolor) theme reverts it to default(blue) theme. Only way to revert this to custom theme is by turning off this preview feature. Didn't see this listed in the limitations hence bringing this up. Will this be fixed when this feature is live?

It is specified as a known limitation in the documentation:

Good Morning and thank you for the release & work on modern controls for canvas apps, they are looking great so far.

One thing which i don't understand is that you wrote in the blog that the inital release contains 13 new controls, but i only have 9 available? And of course i'm missing those which i need the most 😄 (Badge, Button, Checkbox and Datepicker).

Hi, thank you for reporting this. So, the feature is still rolling out. If you are trying this feature in production environment, you will view few controls for now, but in preview environment you will get all 13 controls. By next week, even in production environment you will be able to try all 13 controls.

Disclaimer - we encourage you to try out these controls, but not use in production apps right now. We are still maturing some the released controls.

Trying out the new dropdown control, when I provide a list of strings it converts it to numbers. Even when I use 'dropdownsample'. This happens for tablist too. Is there something obvious im missing?

Edit: that's weird. I'm on chromeos and the screen was showing the items in the dropdown list when i took the screenshot, but it doesnt show them in the captured image. Presumably thats down to the os rather than powerapps.
