new look for Power Apps

We recently launched a preview of the new look for model driven app Power Apps. Details here As you try out the preview, please tell us what you think.  In the coming weeks we'll be talking more about how modern controls, using the Microsoft Fluent design system, will be coming to canvas apps, theming is also on the horizon (about time!).  We're keen to hear people's thoughts and feedback on all those topics here.

Many thanks

Ben

I noticed the GA in June 2023, seems a bit of an ask!

There's no configurability of the styling / theming, the grey background thing comes and goes, all there seems to be is curly corners on the command menu and a load of bugs.

I demoed an app to a user without telling them the "New UI" was switched on, and they didn't even notice!  So much for "Wowing the users with a fresh new look"!

No comms from MS on where they are with it all too.  Same old MS, same old.

How can the user recognize the locked fields in the future?

Did I miss something?

Thanks....

Microsoft aren't bothering to reply on this thread at the moment, so we don't know if they've taken the feedback about the editable fields grey and the locked fields white being counter-intuitive and inconsistent with Fluent UI, or not.

As of today, editable fields are grey (except some types likes dates & dropdowns, which are white) and readonly locked fields are white.

Still very much a work-in-progress situation with no feedback from Microsoft on progress and timescales.

Please "modernize" the address input control and add a Reset property so that it can be cleared after submitting an address. New features are neat but you guys should be fixing existing ones first.

Hi Power Apps team and all,

Definitely another vote for a change in the way read-only/disabled fields are presented - there's not enough of a visual clue and in a round of testing I did with some users recently, they couldn't understand why they weren't able to edit something.

I've noticed another couple of quirks, which may be unique to the environment I'm working on (I'll test at some point if I get time).

Components Breaking

I'm still not entirely sure what triggers it (I'll keep looking) but occasionally I get controls on the form and ribbon "break". They end up with a black border around the entire control and stop responding to mouse-clicks. It looks like this:

Has anyone else found this?

Broken Email Views

Again, I'm not sure if this is consistently an issue or just in this environment I'm testing with, but I'm getting problems trying to view any Email Activity views. I get this:

scr_pafeedback2.png

It happens on all Email views, but not with any other Activity Types. The TypeError is:

Error MessageCannot read properties of undefined (reading 'guid')Stack TraceTypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'guid') at hasCachedPersonaData

The Component Stack lists issues like this:

Themes

I appreciate it's in preview but can't wait to get some theme customisations, and a dark-mode.

That's it for now!

The Modern Date picker has no support for different date time formats leaving everything stuck in the confusing MM/DD/YYYY format which is completely unusable in many countries. If it's going to be locked to one format it should be the ISO standard YYYY-MM-DD at a bare minimum

This has become a significant issue now that the older "Classic" date picker control is no longer available.  We only have Modern controls (Preview) and the standard controls (which have now been demoted to Classic) and the previous Classic controls have been removed.

That means there is no date picker available in Canvas PowerApps that will allow you to change the date format to anything other than US format!

Please provide the option to specify a date format as a priority in either the Modern or what is now called Classic.

Until that is resolved I can't make PowerApps or make changes to existing ones as Date selection is a fundamental function. There are numerous requests and posts (some dating back years) about this relating to the previous controls and I am astounded that the old Classic Date Picker was removed before the option to specify date format was made available.

Maybe I'm missing an easy fix, but currently the dropdown model control when DisplayMode is DisplayMode.View is barely legible. It would be helpful to have a way make this clearer

stefanopagliari_0-1686943689218.png

A possible bug noticed: Setting the tablist display mode to View does not prevent it being interacted with. In my use-case I have some code that triggers on pressing a "next" button that depends on which tab is currently active and so need directly selecting tab names to be impossible. As a workaround I've put a transparent rectangle over the tablist, but this should not be necessary. Thank you.

We read every comment and are hard at work addressing the feedback. We should be able to provide more clarity on what specific fixes are going in soon.
