new look for Power Apps

We recently launched a preview of the new look for model driven app Power Apps. Details here As you try out the preview, please tell us what you think.  In the coming weeks we'll be talking more about how modern controls, using the Microsoft Fluent design system, will be coming to canvas apps, theming is also on the horizon (about time!).  We're keen to hear people's thoughts and feedback on all those topics here.

Many thanks

Ben

That's awesome, looking forward to updates on The New. I hope those higher up setting direction on Power Apps  understand that More Customization is better than Less Customization; we all have unique needs for look and feel in our orgs and the more aspects power apps we can control ourselves the better. Fluent Design (and things like Metro/MDL/Material/etc) may be lovely for consistent corporate identity within a big org but one size does not fit all for Power Apps devs, we are using a Microsoft tool but we are not Microsoft. I would love to just be able to outright use CSS directly and assign classes and ID's to everything in a global stylesheet as needed.

Hi ,
After enabling the new UI, I've encountered a problem with the Alert Dialogs. In the new UI, the dialogs appear without displaying any text, rendering them ineffective. Additionally, I've experimented with the Confirmation Dialog, but it seems to exhibit inconsistent behavior, functioning correctly in some instances while failing in others.

Any suggestions?

I think there is way too much white space and wasted real-estate.  Forms and views that fitted into a standard laptop display now either wrap or columns are pushed out.

I second all the other comments about locked fields not being obvious, etc and that if a sub-grid does not need all the "maximum rows per page", then don't display blank rows.

I would like to know if any of the current set of controls will not be migrated? i.e. Reference Panel.

Looking forward to that. Just some points noticed while playing with it.

Created an array of 30 items, the modern Dropdown/Radio control only shows 25 items. When i used a control from a custom page or de legacy control it renders the 30 items. I understand this is in preview but why only support 25 items in the new modern controls?

The gray background on text/dropdown input is already mentioned.

I did a comparison With the controls from a custom page and the "new" modern controls (see attachment), there are some differences here to.

Great that these modern controls are now becoming more and more mature! I've just tested the new combobox and that looks much better in comparison to the old one. My main wish is that these controls will now be incorporated in a new form (forms just look so old fashioned). Luckily, it seems that this should be available soon?

My feedback on the current controls:

- Toggle switch seems to react relatively slow

- Text input should really have a placeholder setting

- Text input could also benefit from a 'clear setting' so that users can clear their input more easily (instead of adding an icon / reset command to do so). This is mostly useful for 'search inputs'.

Is there a roadmap with dates when we can expect these to be in production, and also the theming engine?

Hello @benapple,

Recently the new controls for Date / Datetime on model driven apps, and the combobox in canvas apps, are displaying some weird behavior where they are not rendering the background:

With the combobox it works in editor but once published does not allow selection of any items, and also has the same issue where it does not render the background.

Authoring version 3.23081.7 now added a placeholder to the textboxt control! 🙂 Still waiting for the form control though (and information about official releases).

We have been using and enjoying this new modern look for model-driven apps untill now.
A recent update has changed the Date Picker format.

r_armstrong_0-1691769714316.png

With the date picker now being transparent, it is terrible to use and we have to switch back to the previous look and feel :(.

Any chance this will be corrected soon ?

Recently on a couple of my apps where I've had modern controls/themes enabled, the canvas doesn't load when opening the editor.

tried the following

- private browsing/other browsers

- clearing cache

- reverting to a previous version worked for a few days before experiencing the same issue again.

The only thing that I noticed fixed the issue was disabling the modern controls and reloading the app.
