new look for Power Apps

We recently launched a preview of the new look for model driven app Power Apps. Details here As you try out the preview, please tell us what you think.  In the coming weeks we'll be talking more about how modern controls, using the Microsoft Fluent design system, will be coming to canvas apps, theming is also on the horizon (about time!).  We're keen to hear people's thoughts and feedback on all those topics here.

Many thanks

Ben

I have came across another issue with modern components. It concerns rendering input components on iOS. When users focus some modern input components (e.g. text box, combobox, datepicker) the screen zooms in and does not zoom out after focus is lost. This is not anything new for Power Apps. However in classic components there is a workaround to increase the input component font size. Unfortunately this is not possible for modern components. It would be nice to have either this customization or far more better fix iOS zooming for the whole Power Apps.

Checking back in on this and the date picker does now have an option to select different formats.... but all the formats selectable are weird US only month-first formats. It seriously cannot be more than a couple of minutes work to add DD/MM/YYY and YYYY-MM-DD formats to that list now that it exists but they're not there, ridiculous!

Few observation:

  1. View tooltips are not shown up in new list controls. (ref: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customerengagement/on-premises/developer/customize-dev...
  2. The new app feels faster and more up-to-date to other modern cloud applications.
  3. Classic themes, it would be nice to have a backwards compatibility with classic theme and new look of MDA. I'm thinking of existing D365 CRM deployments that uses classic theme for a long time now.
  4. How are Virtual PCF controls affected? Will the controls still have access to old fluent UI platform libraries? In general how are fluent UI & react platform libraries work with updates in PowerApps? How are developers supposed to handle updates in platform library. I understand this is still in preview, ref: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/developer/component-framework/react-controls-platform-l...

Overall the new look is refreshing and a nice addition. Great update.

Why not just fix the current controls vs. release new ones with their own set of issues. Many current control issues go back years, and should have been corrected already.

This is a great question. There are several reasons why moving to the new control set was the right decision for us.
The new controls offer a few huge benefits over the old ones:
- Built in support for design tokens
- Aligned with the control set used across Microsoft which allows us to take advantage of a larger number of people supporting these controls. This also makes embedding canvas apps in other Microsoft surfaces look and feel more cohesive.
- Built with standard web sizes (no longer cartoonishly big)

- Many of the issues that plagued they old controls have already been addressed with the new controls

But we do know that there will be growing pains and appreciate the feedback you all provide. We do read every single piece of feedback, and it helps us decide where to focus our efforts to improve the product and the experience for both makers and end users of Power Apps.

Hello,

Thanks for working on the new look it feels great overal.

One thing I noticed and that bothers me is that the custom colors for the graphics are not working anymore.

Are there plans to bring them back ?

Here is an example with the "old look" :

And with the new it reverts back to standard colors :

(I also noticed that the numbers are somehow smaller and harder to read)

I also read in the known limitations that themes are not supported yet.

Hoping to see something new here in the near future.

Thanks again for the work,

Etienne

online org has been updated with Oct wave 2 Features and our agents started using the new look feature in customer service workspace app. we have an observation that the "Business Recommended" fields are missing the '+' icon on the field and it is creating confusion to users to identify which field business is required. Any recommendations/mitigation for this issue is appreciated.

I notice that Microsoft is proposing to retire the blue '+' symbol for recommended fields.  Please can this be reconsidered?  We make extensive use of recommended fields on the opportunity entity as it tells users what they have to have completed when they want to move to the next stage, but allows them still to save partially complete forms.  If the blue cross is removed, we will have to reconsider completely the workflows.

Found another bug - you cannot scroll when selecting forms in the new interface. If there are more forms than what is displayed you cannot access them.

There is an issue with the table's views. When I filter or sort a view and then click on a record and then go back to the view, the sort/filter views aren't retained properly, and you can no longer sort or filter the records. Also, the top menu bar goes to an incorrect menu.

Must refresh the browser to reset my filters to get normal functionality.
