"If then" questions with answers and links

Hello,

I'm getting really frustrated in creating the following Power App (to include to a SharePoint site):

In general, I need a dropdown list (questions) where, depending on the chosen question, an answer will be shown which contains a hotlink.

The issues I'm currently facing are the following:

  1. I do have an MS365 list, which is connected to the dropdown list in Power Apps. This MS365 list contains 6 questions with corresponding answers. These answers include links, hence I have chosen the "Multiple text rows" column format for the answers. These answers only have to be shown and the link has to be clickable.
  2. So far I can create the first dropdown list containing the questions and the link second dropdown list, which is dependent on the answer given in the first dropdown list. THOUGH the dropdown lists seem unable to display HTML, for what the answers shown are rubbish and the link doesn't work (see picture).
  3. I also tried to create 3 steps: 1. Chose question, 2. Answer is displayed (dependent on chosen question), 3. Link is displayed (dependent on chosen answer). Though I don't know how I can include a dependet link/link element.

Therefore my questions are:

  1. Is there any better/more efficient way to solve my general topic, instead of connecting 2 dropdown lists?
  2. If not, can I somehow create a dependent (on the selected question) element to just show the corresponding answer, including a hotlink?
  3. Would point 3 from above work in any way?

PS: Is it somehow possible to include a line break in a dropdown list (see length of first dropdown list...)?

Thank you very very much for your help!!

Hi @JPK88 ,

You have only one list, actually only questions need to be selected. So, one Gallery with Items set to the list is enough. Gallery is used for displaying multiple records of database. You can use a Form or separated controls/icons like your original scenario to display respective answer and link.

Gallery Items:

SP list

Answer Texts Label:

First(Split(Gallery.Selected.Answer,":")).Value & ":"

OnSelect of the Link icon

Launct(Last(Split(Gallery.Selected.Answer,":")).Value)

Addition: Please note for your answer, I'm a total beginner in Power Apps and have absolutly no clue about coding whatsoever... 😅

Hi @JPK88 ,

Neither Combo box nor Dropdown control supports display long selections with word wrapping. If you need this, you may use a Gallery instead, put a Label that Wrap and Auto-height are enabled.

For the link, could you please add a screenshot to show us how the answers are in your list? Is there necessarily a colon ":" separating the answer text and link in each answer? If there is, you can use a Split function to get texts before the colon and the link after it, and use Launch function OnSelect of the Link icon.

Answer Texts Label:

First(Split(Dropdown.Selected.Answer,":")).Value & ":"

OnSelect of the Link icon

Launct(Last(Split(Dropdown.Selected.Answer,":")).Value)

Hi @v-jefferni ,

thank you for your reply. Attached you find a screenshot of boith solutions I've tried (though I tried either one, not as it is shown in the picture. This is only for demonstration).

Thanks, I will also take a look at the Gallery!

Best regards

Hi @JPK88 ,

If the case is option2, you can use my method to achieve the goal. If case is option 1, you can simply use different column values in the respective control:

Answer Label:

Dropdown.Selected.Answer

OnSelect of link icon:

Launch(Dropdown.Selected.Link)

Hi  @v-jefferni,

if possible, I'd like to go with Option 2. Nonetheless, I've managed to include the gallery (though in the german UI it's called "Calatog"...), respectively galleries, but I can't manage to get a relation. I've attached a screenshot on how it should work. Or do I need to user another element for the second step (answers and links)?

Best regards and thanks so far!

Hi @v-jefferni,

thank you for your quick response. Though at the risk of being annoying, I just don't know what to do or how to do it... Please note, the german UI seems to be a bit different then the english one and I'm a total newby to PowerApps. So may I ask for a screenshot from your side, whre and how to enter "Gallery Items", "Answer Texts Label" and "OnSelect of the Link icon"? 🙈

Thank you very much!
