re-define save button

Hello all,

I've a sharepoint list and we created a canvas app to add and display records in a form.

forstera_0-1709548555209.png

Actually, form my sharepoint list, clicking on the  New (Nouveau) button opens the form and allow me to create a new record. Then, when I need to save it, i just click on the Save (Sauvegarder) option of the menu. In this case, the form is closed and the record saved.

Now, I'd like to change this behaviour and I'd like that when I click on the save button ; the record is saved but the forms remains open with this record but no more in eddition modus but display modus because I've to make another operation.

My problem is that I dont know where can I change the operations of the standard Save button ...  : I wanted to add something like :

SubmitForm(Form1);;
Set(varID, Form1.LastSubmit.ID);;
ResetForm(Form1);;
LookUp(Form1; ID = varID)

But I dont know where

Can you point me in the right direction ?

Thanks for your help 🙂

Best Regards

Arnaud

@forstera  - not sure what you mean by "eddition modus", but you can prevent the form from closing by removing the RequestHide function from the OnSuccess property of the Form.

Yes, sorry for my bad explanations :

I need to keep the form open because, once saved, I'll have to add child records (to another sharepoint list)

forstera_0-1709551349520.png

According to what I saw, I can't do that if my record is  new ; I first have to save it (and then my record will get a new id) and then reload it. Once it will done I'll be able to add child records.

thanks for your help

You need to drive the form mode and the Item property of the form with variables.
Set two variables when the New button is clicked. Context variable is fine, you only need it for this screen.

UpdateContext(
    {
        varFormMode: FormMode.New,
        varFormItem: Blank()
    }
);

In the DefaultMode property of the form enter varFormMode

In the Item property of the form enter varFormItem

On the Save button - after SubmitForm(yourForm);

Add:

UpdateContext(
    {
        varFormMode: FormMode.View,
        varFormItem: yourForm.LastSubmit
    }
);

which puts the form in view mode OR, if you want the form to be editable:

UpdateContext(
    {
        varFormMode: FormMode.Edit,
        varFormItem: yourForm.LastSubmit
    }
);

Then:

ResetForm(yourForm)

Some folks might say just put yourForm.LastSubmit in the item property of yourForm but I think variables are cleaner and I worry about a potential circular expression

Dear DJ_Jamba,

thanks very much for your complete answer and sorry If I need time to solve my problem ; I'm totaly new in PowerApps and discovering/learning each step.

According to you message, I defined the 2 context variable on the 'OneNew' Event of my application (SharepointIntegration) ; that's the only place I could have an 'On New' event.

forstera_1-1709625785013.png

Then, I fill my new record (fields  are on the 'SharepointForm1' form) and I added the following in the 'OnSuccess' event of my Sharepointform1 :

forstera_3-1709625930874.png

When I save my new record ; the forms remains open, the new record is saved but then, another record is displayed ; not the freshly new created one. It seems that the penultimate is displayed.

I tried to add a Resetform(Sharepointform1) but there, this is the first record that is displayed.

Still looking from my side to solve it 🙂

You can either have one screen and one form that drives all 3 states of a form (New, Edit, View)
Or
You can have 3 screens and 3 forms e.g.
NewForm Screen (only has a form with mode New)
EditForm Screen (only has a form with mode Edit)
ViewForm Screen (only has a form with mode View)

Which configuration do you have?

Not sure at 100 % ( I didnt make the application but I've to modify it now) but I think I've  one screen and one form that drives all 3 states of a form (New, Edit, View) ; with that form I can add new records, modify them and view them).

Thank you 🙂

Is this what you want it to do?

demo2.gif

I've 3 sharepoint lists : process ; sub-process and task

1 Process can have 1 to many subprocesses and each subprocess can have 1 to many tasks.
When I create a new process (using a form) ; actually when I click on the 'save' button, the new record is saved and the forms is closed. So  I need to reopen it in view mode to be able to add sub-processes.
What I would like  to do is, when creating a new process and saving it , the forms remains open but change the modus from edition to view mode to be able to add directly sub-processes without having to reopen it .

If you change the mode to view mode you cannot add anything to it.
Do you mean change the form to edit mode after save?

i'm confused 😂
