submit multiple forms

Hi All,

I have an app with 7 forms to collect data from one SPO list, which I would like it to update that item in the app.

PA does not support submitting multiple forms, so I am in need of a way to submit all forms after all 7 are filled out.

Example:

1) App opens, showing a dropdown selection of regions

2) I choose a region and I get a listing of all locations in that region

3) I choose a location and it shows EditForm1

4) Editform1 has weekday amounts, I changed the submit button to Navigate(EditForm2)

EditForm2 has weeknight amounts, I changed the submit button to Navigate(EditForm3)

Editform3 has weekend amounts, I changed the submit button to Navigate(EditForm4).

5) Editform 7 has the submit button, where I would like to patch() updating the current record in the app.

I am trying to use Patch(), but I can only figure out how to insert a new row into the list, not update all columns of the current item from my forms.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Joe

There is a lot of info about Patch to make it work, but what I am using is actually keeping a hidden form with all the fields from the 7 forms in this case, and set the "Default" property to whatever DataCardValue is in your seven form:

Ej: Form1, Field1 = DataCardValue1

Then on my hidden form, on the default property, I add on the3 correspondent value: DataCardValue1.Text Or DataCardValue1.Selected.Value or DataCardValue1.Selecteddate depending on the type of field you were using on your form.

This workaround works better for me because then when I submit the form, I navigate to my success screen then that form is successfully submitted. you can't do that with Patch or with several forms

hope that's clear and you find it useful

Cheers

Hi @jaylou,

I'm glad it is almost working. I started using patch for multiple forms but I found this method to work better so I only use this one now. 😉

to navigate to the next screen, I add the navigate option on the OnSuccess property of the form:

Form1=OnSucess: Navigate(Browsescreen1,fade)

Hi @jaylou,

To tell you the truth I usually avoid Choice columns or LookUp columns in SharePoint and build what I need inside the apps...I feel that The Choice columns have a little delay to show the options, or at least when I test them, so I stop using them.

Anyway, I am not sure about this but I think the dropdown fields on your form should have a property called DefaultSelectedItem. You should use that option instead of the Default property in your hidden form, I think that should do the trick.

Hi @jaylou

Before you get started with this, do yourself a favor and watch @Shanescows Video: PowerApps Save Data - Patch, Collect, and ForAll  at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MclJ_O9HvJQ  20 minutes on this will save you hours of wasted efforts. Also, I believe you will find the answer to your question there.

Hi @Drrickry,

Great video, but as I mentioned I can add rows to lists using patch(), my issue is I need to update the current row, the app brings in.

I have 2 lists:

1) List1 holds all static data data, plus columns to add the rates.

2) List2 hods all history of what is entered into the app.

I have a patch() on the submit button on the 7th form, that patch() to List2 with no problem.

My issue is updating the current row with the data from the 7 forms. (I still can't figure out why it wont submit multiple forms)  When they open the app they want to see what was entered the last time they updated the locations rates, so they can see if anything changed.  If the amounts were the same they don't have to enter again, and the Patch() will add to history, and  if I can get patch() working update the current row of list1.

Really I have 2 questions,

1) How do I get the ID of the row that is presented in the app

2) How do I Patch(list1, where row=ID {...})

I am going to see if I can find more info on patching for update, otherwise I am going to see if I can figure out how to create a hidden form like @Anonymous was describing.

Thanks again,

Joe

Hi @jaylou,

For List1 (Static Data):

  • Start with a new blank screen
    • Put a datatable on it.
    • Make the items property of the datatable Sort(List1, Locations, Ascending)
    • Put two buttons on the screen: New and Edit
    • Make the OnScreen property of the New button: NewForm(Form1);Navigate(Screen2,None)
    • Make the OnScreen property of the Edit button: EditForm(Form1); Navigate(Screen2,None)
  • Add another blank screen
    • Name it Screen2
    • Put an Edit form on it and name it Form1
    • Put two buttons on the screen: Name them Save and Back
      • OnSelect property of Save button: SubmitForm(Form1)
      • OnSelect property of Back button: Back(None)
    • Make the Datasource property of the form: List1
    • Make the Items property of the form: Datatable1.Selected
    • Check off all of the boxes for fields that you want to display in the flyout on the right side of the screen
    •  Click on Form1 in the breadcrumbs at the bottom of the screen.
    • Select the OnSuccess property of the form and change it from false to Back(None)

What I don't understand is the relationship between your two lists.  Is it One-to-one or One-to-many?  It pertains to how you further design your app. Ie can one region have many rates or is List2 just a more detailed description of the rates in List1?  Could you post some screenshots of what you currently have in your app?  The more I think about it, the more I think that you can greatly simplify your design.

@jaylou,

Does this accurately reflect the relationship between the lists in your app?Capture.PNGIn the above representation, Category would be Weekday, Weeknight and Weekend.  If this is accurate, I believe we can greatly simplify your app.

Hi @Anonymous,

Adding the hidden form worked like a charm!!!  It was painful setting it up seeing there are a total of 45 columns in the list, but I now have a patch() to enter the history, and a SubmitForm() to update my static table deltas!!

Thank you very much!

Joe

Hi @Drrickryp,

The relationships between the lists would be Region and location.

There are 10 regions with about 20 locations per region.

There would be a one to many... One "region\location" in static to many in history.

Every time a manger goes out to do a rate survey, it will create a new record in history.

I am using @Anonymous hidden form for this app.  I needed this for a 2PM demo.  It's now 1:54 🙂

Thank you for all your answers, I am sure we will be talking soon LOL...

Joe

hi @Anonymous,

My Navigate(Browsescreen1,fade) does not work after it submits the form.

Are you doing something different to navigate to your success screen?

Thanks,

Joe
