i have an app in which there is a common comment box where a user (tech) will input notes to discuss necessary changes. the notes can be seen by an "approver" who can see these comments show up on a different screen to verify items as they go through a checklist before completing the approval for an individual item. Is there a way to have the text be a different color in the box based on the user? I would like for both to see the text as the color they could be set. ex: the tech font will show as black in the text box, and the approver would show up as red. both can see the differences in the color of the text in their retrospective screens. is there a condition that can be based on the user for that box? if user is "tech" or some relevant column in a sharepoint that they type in black and the approver red?
Hi @Kopistars11 , How do you determine whether the user is Tech or approver?
You need get the role of user.
Example: If you have SP list which store the information like UserEmail and Role as 2 different columns. Then role can be define as follow on app start property:
Set(gblvar_Role, LookUp(SPList, UserEmail = User().Email).Role)
The below code on color property of control can help
If(gblvar_Role = "Tech", Color.Black, gblvar_Role = "Approver", Color.Red)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope this helps.

i have a sharepoint list that does contain something similar. The computational lead and the supervisor would be the two different roles.
can you explain more what the gblvar role means? new to this somewhat. thanks.
Hi @Kopistars11 , Basically gblvar_Role is global variable that you can set on the App start to determine whether what is the role of a logged in user. Could you please share more on the type of columns in above screenshot. Also what is the data source?
Thanks,
ANB
the email is a person and the name is text. it is coming from a sharepoint list
@Kopistars11 Could you please elaborate more the above SP list? Is this list just used to store user details or it has associated other columns ?
Basically, you just need find the role of current user who has logged in to app. Example: Let say I have SP list which store the user detail like below which has 2 columns:
UserEmail | Role |
user1@abc.com | computational lead |
user2@abc.com | supervisor |
user3@abc.com | supervisor |
user4@abc.com | computational lead |
Now on the App OnStart you will have this code:
Set(gblvar_Role, LookUp(SPList, UserEmail = User().Email).Role)
The below code on color property of control
If(gblvar_Role = "computational lead", Color.Black, gblvar_Role = "supervisor", Color.Red)
NOTE: I cannot see your screen, so you have to provide all relevant information
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope this helps.

so each assigned tech/computational lead (these are almost always the same unless one is away for an extended period of time, if so, they will be reassigned to another individual) has 15-20 records (sites which they are responsible for completing a series of tasks before it can be approved.
site # | Site name | tech email | tech name | comp lead email | comp lead name | supervisor email | supervisor name |
1 | name 1 | tech1@abc.com | tech 1 name | tech1@abc.com | tech 1 name | super@abc.com | super 1 |
2 | name 2 | tech2@abc.com | tech 2 name | tech2@abc.com | tech 2 name | super@abc.com | super 1 |
3 | name 3 | tech1@abc.com | tech 1 name | tech1@abc.com | tech 1 name | super@abc.com | super 1 |

6 | name 6 | tech2@abc.com | tech 2 name | tech2@abc.com | tech 2 name | super@abc.com | super 1 |
did not work based on the code. im guessing that it is a result of how my list is constructed.
