How can I enable the Status field on a form?

The Status field appears locked by default in Power Pages and in Power Pages Management (see padlocks on screenshots below), although the locked property isn't selected.

I want an end user to be able to change whether a record is active or inactive on a form, but can't see how I can enable the status field on a form.  Any thoughts?

In a model driven app Status change is done via a button on the command bar (or via Workflow, plugin or Flow). For the portal there are a couple of approaches

  • If you do not have a lot of Status Reasons (e.g. by default you just have Active under the Active Status), then you could add another Status Reason for Deactivate (under the 'Active' Status) then create a Realtime Workflow that triggers on change of Status Reason and have the Workflow change the Status if the value in the Status Reason is Deactivate.  You can also do similar creating your own field and using it for the trigger e.g. a Yes/No (which you could render as a checkbox). Note, for these it is important to use a realtime Plugin or Workflow (workflow is generally easier as it can all be done with configuration) if your portal user needs to see the Status change straight away.
  • The Basic form (and List options) also have the capability to Activate/Deactivate via Action buttons (which can also be used to run a Workflow). You would need to user the Portal/Power Pages Management App for the Basic Form the Action button configuration is under the Additional Settings tab, for Lists they are in the Grid Configuration section of the Options tab.

For Forms, generally I prefer the Status Reason or custom field triggering workflow, as with Action buttons on a Basic form there can be an issue where the button runs prior to any changed data on the form being saved.

Thanks Fubar

That's a great help.  I think I'll use a custom field triggering real-time workflow.

Hi @Fubar

Everything seemed to be going fine and then...

  • In the first screenshot below, I can change Status Update field to Inactive and that updates the Status to Inactive
  • However, in the second screenshot, I want to reactive it, but can't because the fields are disabled (presumably because it has an Inactive Status)

Both the screenshots below are for the same form accessed via the same list.  So I'm hoping there is is some setting somewhere which allows me to turn of the disabling of a form where the Status is inactive.

Any suggestions?

Martin

To re-activate you would need to configure an Action button either on your form or list

Thanks @Fubar

That's a great help.  On the surface, the neatest solution looks like adding buttons to the list (screenshots below).

I'll be doing some testing of the lists/forms next week, so I should spot if there are any issues with this solution.
