How to manipulate the data in SQL Database directly from Power Pages

Hello,

Is there any way to have a Power Pages app working with the data (read and write) in some DB directly (e.g., Azure SQL db), w/o replicating in Dataverse? Seems there is no such functionality.

It is possible to interact with SQL cloud database via Virtual Tables. Official link below

FYI. Dataverse is more than SQL database which include amazing features such as File attachments, images, etc..

Thank you, I agree, in many cases we may use virtual tables in Dataverse to work with DB.

But it looks like we cannot connect to the DB directly from Pages, without Dataverse, which is pity.

You can connect to a SQL Server database using plugins and C#. Also, if you can connect to your SQL data using Odata, you can use WebAPI.

Is there any reason as to why you want to do it via SQL?

Whilst the data source is currently DataVerse (or Virtual Tables), if you have some data that you need to access from the Portal and doing so via Ajax would be appropriate then you could look at use OAuth 2.0 implicit grant flow  (client-side calls to external APIs and secure them using OAuth implicit grant flow) https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/portals/oauth-implicit-grant-flow  there is a link towards the bottom of the page to some sample code on Github.

Note: they have announced are going to deprecate GET (think it was for obtaining a token) and so you will need to use POST.
