Accessing the details of a non-unique related values list

Hello Forum,

I've searched and searched many different string combinations and can't seem to find a post/thread with a similar issue to the one im having.

I have an approval workflow situation where i need to trigger based on creating a new item in a sharepoint list. Lets call this list, Finance Projects. Once a new item is created, or a new Proejct is kicked off for business process context, I want to trigger a series of approvals and email notifications.

The trigger will first copy over a template and name the file the same as the new finance project - that part is fine and functioning.

Further down the flow, i need to access the details of a relateed lookup list. The Finance Project List includes a few lookup fields/references to other lists within the application, such as Customer Group. This lookup reference is setup as a non-unique lookup to the Customer Group Name, meaning a user can select multiple customers for a Finance Project.

When I'm accessing the item via the flow interface, the only available option is Customer Group Value. When i reference this item in a subsequent email, it returns a blank value. I presume this is due to the non-unique nature of this related looup field and it returning an array.

When i attempt to leverage an 'Apply to Each,' i am only able to access the actual created item that triggered the flow, not the specfiic list of Customer Group references found in the related lookoup field.

How can i access these? More importantly, how can i get related list item details into a flow that is referenced by a non-unique reference?

Thanks in advance!

Will

Hi willhinojosa,

How did you setup the non-unique lookup to the Customer Group Name? I am not familiar with this, could you show me more details?

About your scenario, it would be better for understanding if you could send me some screenshots.

Best regards,
Mabel Mao

Mabel,

I'm trying to get the post to work via HTML.

First, I've set up the non-unique lookup field to reference an related list called, Customers, with the link setup per the below details: Related_Customer_Column_Details

You'll notice the highlighted area indicates there may be multiple values for this field in the Finance Projects list. Below is the column reference in the Finance Projects list setup as a Lookup field:Columns_List

Next, in Flows, the workflow is triggered when a new list item is created by a user. The flow will follow the below logic:Workflow

After it is triggered, a series of notifications and approval emails are sent. At this point, when I try to reference the Customer List item, or items, that were referenced in the Finance Project item that triggered the workflow, I see the below item available at which point I'd like to place a detail of that item into the email body: Related_Customer_Value

I assume the highlighted above item that is available to insert into the body of an email is an array, due to its non-unique nature. As such when referenced directly, it returns a blank value. I assume you'd have to loop through its available items using a for-each loop.

When attempting to use a for-each statement, the items that should be available via the Related Customer Field are simply NOT available as shown below:Apply_to_Each

Bumping this thread for visibility. I'm sure someone is trying something similar

Hi willhinojosa,

Thanks for the detailed clarification and the screenshots.

Please check this documentation about “Connect from Microsoft PowerApps to SharePoint” for a reference. From this documentation we know that “PowerApps doesn't support columns that support multiple values or selections”. I guess that Flow might also have the same limitation.
https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/connection-sharepoint-online/

So I create a simple flow to get multiple values of Lookup column, I found that there is no value can be got from this field. Thought I have entered value for this filed in the list.

please see the screenshot below, the only input for the Body is Title, no value from the Lookup column “RelatedEmployee”.

Please consider to create a request on Flow Ideas Forum, hope PGs will take it into consideration in the future release. I will also collect and report this request form my side.
