CONFIGURE RUN AFTER: How to get the correct Selected Response from Email With Options?

Hello,

Need some help with this one. Can't use Flow Approvals due to Attachments.

Scenario:

• Trigger: When an item is created or modified in Sharepoint List
• Action1: Get item
• Action2: Send Email with Options + Timeout set to 1 Day (P1D)
• Action3: Send Email with Options + Configure Run After set to "Timeout"
• Action4: Update item in Sharepoint List
  • Need to grab the "Selected Response" from the email that was acknowledged
• Action5: Use the "Selected Response" in a Switch statement to take action

Example:

Any ideas on how to get the Selected Response from the correct email?

The way i've done this is by creating two parallel branches that run after Action 2.  One is set to run if Action 2 successful and the other if it times out. Have both branches record the selected response in a variable. Then have them come back together at Action 4 and use the variable to set the response.

You should create different action following the different "Send an email with options" action.

Hi @Pstork1 and @v-alzhan-msft,
I'm implementing your suggestions and need to ask some further questions:

• This solution causes two duplicate paths in the Flow. If I have another 20 actions to perform, I now have 40 actions to create/maintain.
• Is there not a way to simply determine if one of the Selected Reponses IsBlank()/empty() then keep things single-threaded?

Once you have handled one of the two different responses you can then exit the parallel branches and continue on with a single thread.  That's why you store the response in a variable, so you can use the same variable later no matter which branch set it. If you look at the following screenshot you can see how the two seperate branches come back together after I've handled the specific actions that are different depending on whether the timeout occurs or not. Note: the first action after the parallel branches nees to be set to run after for both successful and skipped.

Thank you @Pstork1 and @v-alzhan-msft . Here is the final solution I went with:

1. Action set to configure-run-after
2. Action set to succesful
3. Set the same variable regardless of path chosen
4. Set Switch configure-run-after to BOTH "successful" and "skipped" for BOTH set-variable actions
   1. Also set the Switch value to variable dynamic content
