Change original owner of a flow

Hello,

I have created a couple of flows under my own account, but I want to change it to a generic user in order to make sure that the flows keep running should my account be deleted one day.

I can add an owner to a flow, but behind the scenes I continue to be the original owner it seems. One example is that sending mails in a flow is done showing my name. The same goes for approval mails as part of the 'Start an approval' action.

Is there a way to make another owner the original owner of a flow?

Thanks and regards

Wim

Hi @Anonymous,

Do you want to change the original owner of a flow within Microsoft Flow?

I afraid that there is no way to directly change the original owner of a flow within Microsoft Flow currently, if you would like this feature to be added in Microsoft Flow, please submit an idea to Flow Ideas Forum:

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Flow-Ideas/idb-p/FlowIdeas

In addition, if you want to make another owner (Another Microsoft Flow account) the original owner of your flow, you could consider take a try to export your flow as a Package and then import the flow package into another user Microsoft Flow account.

More details about exporting and importing your flows across environments with packaging, please check the following article:

Export and import your flows across environments with packaging

I stumbled upon this post this morning. I know it's a couple of years old, but I thought others might benefit from new information. I was faced with a Flow failing because the creator is no longer with the company. When I viewed the Flow owners it showed that person with the trash can disabled. I went into the User record for that person and did a "Reassign Records" to someone else and that seems to do the trick. He is no longer listed as an Owner and the person I reassigned to is and now has the disabled trash can. Might be common knowledge that you can do this, but I didn't know until this morning.

Hi - i want to know where to look for this step [ I went into the User record for that person and did a "Reassign Records" to someone else]

Would be really helpful to know as we are to eventually to do the same in one of our Flows

Can you explain where one accesses the User Record?  Thanks!

Follow these steps to reassign User Record

  • Navigate to https://admin.flow.microsoft.com/
  • Select Environments then select the desired environment
  • Select Security
  • Select Go To Power Platform Admin Center
  • Find the user then select

  • Under User properties select Reassign Records

This did NOT work for me, but I was able to export and import the project quite easily, turn off the old owners flow and turn on my newly imported.

Kia ora,

This is what I have done (as we don't use environments).

  1. Added generic user as an owner to the flow
  2. Export from the main author's flow account
  3. Log into the new (Generic) users flow account
  4. Import the flow (*Update existing flow)

*On import, it asked if I want to import as new or update existing and I chose to update existing. It also asked me to choose new connections and I chose the generic user for the connections (for sending of emails actions etc).

After import, I just had to enable the flow and test.

Test passed so yay!
