Create item fails to see the new list

Hello,

In my flow I have actions which do the following

1) Look for existing list, "mylist". If found delete it. Action is successful

2) Create new list "mylist" with columns. Action is successful

3) "Create item" action. This one fails to update items with the error "list not found..."

I believe the problem is that when I configure the "create item" it is an existing list. But when it creates dynamically in the flow it is the not the same list even though it is the same name. Does the new list have an unique id? If so how do I find it and then use that new list?

@hbirdie as there's no create new list action in Power Automate I assume you are using the Send an HTTP request to SharePoint to create the new list. Have you tried adding a delay of, for example, 5 seconds between the Send an HTTP request and the create item action? It might be that the actions are taking place so fast that the list hasn't quite been created by the time the create item action runs, leading to the list not found error.

Thanks for responding. 

Yes, I am using the HTTP action to sharepoint to create a list and Yes I added a delay of 1 minute and it still throws an error. I do see the list on my SP site during the delay action.

May i know how you are passing list name in create item - just hardcoding the list name ?

I am hard coding the list name in the http request.

Hi @hbirdie 

in output of request where you create list, do you get an id parameter which represent the id of list, could you try to use that instead (just take the value from the flow results and use that in create item action for test purposes)

I also tried to look for the new list and it does find it but when creating the item it fails.

Hi @hbirdie 

I don't want to look for the list, but in api where u are trying to create list, its output contains a ID parameter which represents id of SharePoint List.

So how do I capture the "id"  from the output parameter? What action do I need to use?

Hi @hbirdie 

Try using body('Send_an_HTTP_request_to_SharePoint')?['Id'] expression in a compose action or in List name field in Get items action.

When I try to use the body syntax inside a compose action I get

I have changed the values in the URL for security reasons. So which field will be the id? Sorry I am new at Power Automate.

OK I found the id/guid by using the below syntax in the compose action.

body('Send_an_HTTP_request_to_SharePoint_-_GetList')['d']['Id']

Try using that id in the list name field as an expression in Create Item action and see whether that works !

Hi Nivid,

After the list is created and the id is captured, I  searched for the list via the id. To do that I used the "Send an HTTP request to SharePoint" and in the uri I used the syntax

api/web/lists(body('Send_an_HTTP_request_to_SharePoint_-_GetList')['d']['Id'])

However, I get the below error message

"The expression \"web/lists(831ace7d-50b0-4a8e-b2a8-ce0e76587d47)\" is not valid

Is the syntax correct?

from the documentation - i understand that we can directly insert id of list -instead we should use guid function over it- like below

In your case- it should be 

_api/web/lists(guid(body('Send_an_HTTP_request_to_SharePoint_-_GetList')['d']['Id']))

Hi Nived,

The 

_api/web/lists(guid(body('Send_an_HTTP_request_to_SharePoint_-_GetList')['d']['Id']))

I capture body('Send_an_HTTP_request_to_SharePoint_-_GetList')['d']['Id']) in a variable, ListID and then I use 

the same url above by replacing body with the variable. However,  it gives me an error.

The expression \"web/lists(guid(2b6ed46b-3945-4b0e-949b-81d4f33ee139))\" is not valid
